Only thing is the Lafont stuff has wooden handles - won't they burn or discolour in the oven? Or can you only use it in the oven without the lid? Also probably cannot go in the dishwasher for the same reason (amazon.com descriptions says "Hand wash"). The Le Creuset and Chasseur stuff I have has no wooden bits and can go in dishwasher.

Let us know what they are like Whirly! :)

I think the Lafont range comes with both screw-on cast iron and wooden knobs and the long handle screws off to go in the oven ... perhaps you would please confirm, Whirly?

Oh, on second thoughts, perhaps it's better if you don't report back ... my credit card has taken enough of a bashing! ;) :rotfl:

Was lucky enought to receive a Le Creuset 18cm casserole for £17.10, delivered yesterday (thanks to OP). In the box was a redemption voucher for a complimentary 128 page cook book "The Cast Iron Way to Cook" by Sue Cutts, worth £14.99. I was disappointed to read that the enclosed voucher expired on 31st December 2006.

However, on the Le Creuset uk website, they are re-running the same offer, and you can download an updated redemption coupon (expires 31st December 2007) here. You just need to attach the barcode from the product, and send in the completed coupon.

Just got the cancellation e-mail for the 18cm blue Le Creuset casserole too, but as I got one of these last year when they were half price (£27) I'm not too disappointed.

P.S. The free book is worth a quick look - it tells me, for instance, that the 29cm oval casserole will make Coq au Vin for 8 to 10 people!

EDIT: I've just been over to the Amazon website and note that the 18cm blue casserole is In Stock and available - but at £57!! Sneaky Amazon

Now I am disappointed ... with Amazon!
  • Just had an email from Amazon:

We are sorry to inform you that we have been unable to obtain the
    following item:

"Le Creuset Cast Iron Oval Cocotte / Casserole 27cm Granite"

This item has now been cancelled from your order and we can confirm that
you have not been charged for it.

If appropriate, your gift certificate account will be credited.

Please accept our apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience
    caused.

If you took advantage of a promotional offer when placing this order,
this cancellation may affect your order's eligibility for that offer.
If you discover this to be the case, please contact customer service
so that we may investigate. You can send an e-mail to customer service
    from the following URL:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/502564/ref=cs_hd_cus_1

I called up Amazon customer services and I was offered 10 pound voucher for use with my next purchase. Not fully happy but something is better than nothing.

Same here I ordered the cerise 26cm casserole which got cancelled due to their not being able to obtain stocks, but the website shows 2 in stock at £101.

I don't mind them cancelling as thats fair enough, but they should give the true reason.

Same here. All the 7 Le CreusetI've ordered have been cancelled. Boo hooooooo. All apart from 1 are in stock and full price.
Well done Amazon. I would rather have them saying that they won't honour the sale due to the misprice, than lying to me.

The Chasseur stuff though is on its way. Got one yesterday, and the remainnig are due to arrive on Monday. Better something than nothing.
