Vodafone woes!

Hi,

Recently had my iPhone stolen. Phoned Vodafone to block sim etc, then was advised to get a replacement sim card in store.

I did so last monday, then went on holiday.

I got back last night, checked my emails after work today, and had an email about my new vodafone renewaly and saying my contract that commenced in May 2011 is now going to run until 2015!!!!

Surely this can't be right? I never agreed to anything of the sort?

To top it all off, I work hours that make it near impossible to be home from 8 am to 8 pm to call from the landline, have no access to phones at work, and am still waiting on the new phone from insurance so can't call Vodafone and tried to email them - but that facility isn't currently working!!

It says in the email I have 7 days to change my mind which has passed now (it was last Monday I got the sim replaced!)

I am freaking out a bit - surely this isn't okay?!

Any advice welcome!

  • This doesn't sound right at all... did you have to sign any paperwork in store? If so do you still have a copy?
It could be that the store have performed an upgrade, but if this is the case you should have signed a new contract and been given a new phone- if you simply picked up a replacement sim there should be no change at all to your contract, it should continue exactly as it was before. Even a change to a sim only contract would need ID and a a contract to be signed, and the new agreement would only be 12 months, so this wouldnt explain the contract length.
Other than that, there may be fraud on your account. I would return to the store ASAP and ask them to find out exactly what has happened. they should be able to see from the notes where your contact was upgraded, and as you are within 7 days they should be able to reverse it for you and raise a fraud case if need be.
  • I didnt sign a thing - was in and out in about 2 minutes flat. Very concerning...
  • The biggest concern is that someone may have used your phone to change your address and order a new phone before you had chance to block it. If they called from your number the person who took the call would assume it was you- hopefully they would still have followed DPA but if they called from your phone there is always a chance that they may have bypassed this somehow.

I would chase this up straight away- if someone has changed your details they could be adding extra lines for all you know, dont delay call tomorrow, change your password and ask for instructions to be added for extra DPA in future.

You need to know when it was upgraded, where it was done, and if online or over the phone, what address was the phone delivered to. Also make sure the address on the account is still correct. It should be quite straight forward to sort out, but you need to act fast.

    Good luck
