The price is ok, check what make he is installing
I avoid Wylex, Volex, Crabtree and now MK.
MK as the quality is through the floor
The rest because of the product recall from 2010. I have never bought them as I fould the quality less than I would fit

But it's not always a simple job is it?
And it's the installation of a new consumer unit, not a straight like-for-like swap.
A really bad case could take a couple of hours to get the earth rods in for a satisfactory earth on a TT system.
And you've included the cost and time spent waiting for the DNO to isolate and reconnect at their cutout or do you work live?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Yebbut only 1 RCD and 1 circuit on an RCBO. I don't think that's a particularly good spread of circuits for discrimination in the event the RCD trips and I would question whether it's compliant with 17th Edition in a typical setting.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Hey guys, and sorrys, may be some girls there, eh? Cheers for all the input, it seems he`s `ball park` so to speak.. It just that he needs me to fit carpet at his new rental home, 2up 2down, both floors entire. Now mates rates to me is as much tea and biscuits that any normal man can consume in 6-8 hours and music/entertainment comes free also (no bands though) plus if the jobs been hassle free, give me £50, same rate day after also, and i am happy to help a friend out. Now if said sparks is going to make £200 for an easy day (mate rate) i`m guessing he`s out the running for potential best man stakes, its abit rude, imo.. I hav`nt made £200 per day for a long time, that was very brief, i wish.. Now, do i get my money "back out of his carpet job" or does that make me as bad as him,? Personnaly, i will do his work for what i class as mate rate, as i stated above, i will sleep straight in bed at night and also, no doubt he will too...0

now thats mates rate, exactly my point.
the prices quoted are full price. and IMO high anyway, but thats obviously not the opinion of 'hard working' single skill sparks of MSE....0 -
why don't you ditch the mates rates and both just charge your normal rate. That's what I do - no argument then. Don't forget that a sparks has more 'hidden' costs - NICEIC reg, test equipment calibration, notification fees (yes we have to pay!) plus I dare to say it, that we had to train longer than a carpet fitter...

My parents have just bought a 1950's ex council house that was apparently re-wired in 1984, it needs a new fusebox and I know they were quoted between £350-450 which seems a fair price considering what needs to be done (it isnt just the fitting the box to the wall there is all the associated paperwork and checks to be done).
I know that new fuse boxes are highly sensitive because I have one in the flat where I live now - each time a lightbulb goes it flips so I have to change the bulb & flip the switch.
Oh and despite my username I am a woman and have found some of the language here to be rather coarse to say the least.0 -
An interesting thread to read I didn't relaise the Wylex seems to have gone down hill.

Like BaldElectrician, I fit Hager pretty much exclusively now since the Electrium/Wylex issues. Good quality and nice to work on.
