Nobody incl. the Santander branch manager knows how to stop the charges. CAN YOU ?

OK people who take a zeal in finding ways to blame the affected (a gross mis-attribution delusion that the world is just and predictable in very many cases ) try and blame THIS one on me.
My santander debit card developed a fault and i was overdrawn by £20 for 5 days. OF course i have no overdraft, not that this matters these days.
AND OF course right on cue, the ridiculous loan shark style charges kicked in and these were paid off (after a meeting with the assistant manager).
4 weeks later the charges start again... This time i called in a relative to be a witness that they would be paid off. THAT involved my dear accusers of physically going into the bank and asking the teller how much would be required not only to pay the outstanding charges (which appeared from thin air) BUT ALSO how much extra to pay in advance to cover any hidden charges (THAT NOBODY IN THE BANK CAN FATHOM I SHOULD ALSO MENTION). YES THAT AMOUNT WAS PAID.
4 weeks later the charges start again THIS time The branch manager herself looks into this account AND tells me she has paid everything off to stop this from recurring.
OF course i am sure you can now guess that 4 weeks later the charges start again (now a total of £480 for their mistake of going over £20 for 5 days on a non overdraft account). This time the manager paid the charges and baffled closed the account.
IS this a scam ? YES OR NO PLEASE blamers. CAN somebody explain how charges can keep re-starting (at an interest rate of almost 100,000 % APR) yet staff tellers, an assistant manager and a branch manager cannot stop them from re-starting by injecting cash (into a normal SANTANDER visa DEBIT With no direct debits, standing orders etc of any kind on it. OR to make it ULTRA CLEAR the card has not been used in nearly 5 months, i.e. ZERO Transasctions occur on this account or come out of it, yet charges KEEP re-starting every 4 weeks, NO matter how much is paid into it, PRAY DO tell Blamers of the account holders HOW ? this does happen if you can tell me i do not think you can but if you can please get in touch with the santander so they can employ you to think of new ways to scam customers thank you very much. :T

I assume it's not the £5 under funding fee that they will apply to your account?Learn to speak Norfolk:
Translations: Naarfok = Norfolk, Narridge = Norwich, jargon = like running, but slower, cooo = queue, how're yer gettin arn = Norfolk greeting, on the huh = Something being uneven.0 -
Can I charge you £30 for trying to read through that mish mash of fonts?0

NO (the correct answer)dixon-bainbridge wrote: »I assume it's not the £5 under funding fee that they will apply to your account?
no its not that. I have all their small print books here. (4 in total and almost 60 pages for a card to pay some groceries with !). Who can figure this junk out ? I am a PhD student and can tell you the entire lot would need to be read memorized and then the reader would require the type of mind to cross associate every possible combination and outcome. If i had such a project for university they would allow me several days full time to handle this.
My account WAS an everyday current account. Underfunding fee only applies to preferred current accounts and Alliance and Leicester accounts they transfered. that is YET Another scam, as i see online a load of dormant A + L account holders were unknowingly put into daily charges for this £5 fee then after it reached £1000 the cash was extracted out their other accounts. Why did that idiot (idiot because idiocy is measured against a persons regular intelligence) judge Lord Philips allow the banks to get away (and hence they now escalate their antics) with this nonsense in 2009 ? Either he is stupid, does not give a damn or got tricked somehow.0 -

OK opinions4U out of pure research and fascination i read through the thanked posts of all members with how shall we put it, a less than sympathetic approach to people posting such problems.
Well YES opinions4U ? or for everybody ? Who exactly are these opinions 4 anyway the member or the rest of this bulletin board. I suspect its the latter for some strange reason.
Answer this (IF YOU DARE)
Do you see me as responsible for these charges repeating ?
YES or NO. IF you put YES lets see your explanation, thanks. Will it be better than all those other posts that blame members and hence encourage other members to join in as you have a high post count and fancy badges and graphics of honour TO BOOT !!0 -
Well, what caused the original £20 overdraft? Did you put your account into overdraft status, or was it a mistake of the bank which did so?
If the former, then you are likely to be responsible for the charges. If you have insufficient funds in your account to pay the charges you will incur further charges. So every 28 days you will incur further charges.0 -

Yes it was a bank mistake but does it really matter if it was or if it was not pray do tell me my good friend ?

READ the OP PLEASE. NOTHING Works... NO staff member could either tell me how to stop them from re-starting, i.e. how much to leave in the account, neither could they pay them off to try and stop this no matter what they tried.
SO Anyway back to the topic which everybody here is doing a great job of trying not to answer by the usual strategy of focusing on miniature irrelevancies.
DO you actually see any of these ratchet charges as justified ? Why should they keep re-starting after they have been paid off pray do tell if you can ?0 -
YES of course they can stupid (and pray tell how)I can make a suggestion: The branch should alter the statement date to the following day (after paying in money to clear charges) as this generates charges sooner (rather than waiting for a regular statement period to roll around and clock up additional charges). Worst case scenario should then be £5 max for one days additional Unauthorised OD use.
Paid and Unpaid item fees 'stack' as they are triggered on the day they happen (regardless of the statement period), Authorised and Unauthorised Daily Fees are based on the statement period. So manually changing the statement date will affect the charges incurred upon closure.0
