Been away for ages, but been reasonably good ;).
OH paid 15th of month so our new month starts today, and coming back just for some help to keep on track. Been doing ok with main shop but downfall is treat shopping, the odd takeaway sandwich etc. Technically this comes from another budget, but want to reduce it. Thought if I came on here you guys might help me stick to my homemade lunches and only treats once in a while. [STRIKE] So what can I have for lunch today.... ? not buying anything and have the usual eggs, cheese, bread, flour, condiments, toms, lentils etc in....[/STRIKE] Edit that, me and DS having leftovers for lunch and DH sent off with hm spicy carrot and parsnip soup.

LOL! Was just going to suggest hard boiling the eggs. Mashing them up with some salad cream ( I love it with this) or mayonnaise and a grinding of salt and pepper. Put into a sandwich. Nom! nom! nom! Nom! :D

I have to admit that often it does not even make it to the sandwich :D

Did a charity shop run yesterday and among my haul I got a Christys of London felt hat, never been worn, for a fiver. I was so chuffed. I also got three 500g bags of beads, 1 in a pink colourway, 1 in a purple colourway and another in a pearl/mixed colourway. They were £1.99 a bag which I thought was quite reasonable. I want to start to learn to make my own jewelry and this is good to start practising with. Picked up a bread bin that shrinks to the size of the bread that is in it and some K'nex that was new in the box, which I will put away for dc2's birthday in June. Some really funky buttons and some pirate material. I was really pleased with it.

    Hello food budgeteers :wave::wave:

Spends since last week have been £24.62 in Tescos (childrens birthday present for a friend, not technically food but have taken it from the food budget anyway as things going well), 9.99 in Asda (toiletries) £10.82 in local shop (milk etc top up) and £4.77 in a petrol station (emergency diet coke and Bounty!:o)

Total spend to date 241.39, leaving £108.61 for the rest of the month (til the 31st). I have lots of meals in the fridge/freezer, so the remainder of the food budget should just be for milk/bread/snacks/cereal etc for the remaining two weeks of the month.

As an aside, have also spent £120 of the £150 petrol budget, and the full tank should last until the end of the month - if so, I can also use the spare £30 of petrol budget for food.

Wow you must have some good charity shops, although I look I never seem to find much.

Try the Onion and Potato Soup from Cheap Family Recipes. It uses 800g onions, which is roughly 3 big onions, and 2 medium potatoes, the bacon makes it taste good, but when I go veggie around April time I'll start leaving it out and I know it will still be yummy, specially if you use a good stock cube (I use Kn0rr stock pots, the weird gel type things that are insanely expensive unless you get them only on offer like me!!!) Link HERE

Thaks LC - yes, I think onion soup is going to be all mine for all next week's lunches. I think I'll also make an onion tart as I have some pastry in the freezer to use up too. I'm thinking of doing slow roast brisket for sunday lunch, so that can be on a bed of onions to make lush onion gravy.

So, that's used up about 10 of the bu66ers....only 20 odd to go :rotfl:

I use onions in practically everything, so will chop and freeze as many as I can squeeze into the freezer, and hopefully the remaining ones will last a few weeks in a dark cupboard.

There'll be a lot of crying in my kitchen tonight as I get peeling :rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just updating my spends so far to £31.10 - £18.11 on some basics like milk, eggs, dog food and £12.99 on the organic box delivery.

Half way through the month and not even spent a quarter of the allowance! The Fiscal Fast is definately keeping my spends down this month! Have lots of pasta, rice, tin toms and pulses in, might make a lentil dhal for the weekend.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

    Hi everyone,

I've done one shop in March so far, but then have been holding on until today (pay day today, phew).

I've meal planned, and put together a shopping list and then looked at the Rosspa website, and got very excited about how the prices compared, and ordered about half my shopping from them. However, the delivery charge is £15 - is that normal? I don't know if that actually negates any savings I might have made. The heaviest thing I've ordered is probably the 10kg carrots or the 5 litre tub of white vinegar- I use it for cleaning, laundry etc, and was going to buy a couple of bottles this week.

Stuff that was on the order: loads of fruit and veg, tin toms, milk, vinegar, cheese

    Is it worth it?

    TIA

Have added another £120.00 onto sig...think I took my eyes off the ball this week..but it was DS1s 18th birthday and had my brother and sis in law for the weekend.(first time we have seen them for 18 months)..so did get more than usual in the way of treats etc.

Sausage and mash for tea..I might make the onion and potato soup too as DD1 will complain about tea.

Got some eggs in MrTs today and the pack of 15 has gone up from £1.25 to £1.58:eek::eek: in one week...just ridiculous:mad::mad:
