Spend so far this month is €122.16...rather more than I would like but will not need to shop for a week again I hope, if I dig around in cupboards and freezer might do 10 days!

  • Doing quite well (for me anyway!;)) on using some stocks up - retrieved some chicken breast things in breadcrumbs from the depths of the freezer last night that have been there for quite a while (goodness knows why I bought them as I really don't like "processed" food) - 1 eaten ... only 4 to go!:o

Have started work on the out of date stuff I found in the cupboards the other day - so far have managed OOD tinned fruit in OOD pastry tartlets and ice cream last night (a pud is a rarity here and was ... yum:D) - so ..... only 4 tins of OOD soup to go!

Making Chilli tonight thanks to Cleggie talking about it yesterday!:)

This may be a lot of "balloney" but.... I was growing veg in some of these last year and I also had some of the wee bits (that are used as packaging) in the bottom of them and I was advised by one of my colleagues (who has an allotment and seems to know what they're talking about) not to as the chemicals can be taken up by the soil and up into the plants & then into the fruit & veg ..... no idea if it's true or not.

Dont think there is any truth in this, at least regarding the boxes, these are almost indentical to the ones that are sold as mushroom kits and are intended to grow in. I have a friend who has done this for years and gets his boxes from the chippy, their fish is delivered in them, also when I had my allotments a lot of the oldies used them.

I would not however use the small moulded packaging pieces
as have noticed that these go soggy and slimey when wet and could well leach chemicals into the soil.

Interesting though I will have a Google and see what Ican find out.

I've just had a tot up and I've spent £17.02 in the last 24 hours, whoops!
I went into MrT and MrA on the way to the station to pick up DH last night, picked up a few bargains including 4 packs of casserole veg for 10p each, but it was the other bits that make the damage.
Then today I've got a few bits from MrS and the market.
On the plus side I've got a casserole in the SC using 20p worth of veg and YS beef (50p) so a very cheap dinner tonight. Will do a couple of tatties for DH to fill him up.
I also got a pork loin joint today down to £1.49 from £6 which if I am careful should do 2 days. I got a 10p packet of noodles so I can finish it up in a stir fry after roasting it tomorrow.
The market was good again today. I got a big bowl of sprouts for £1 (I can see a bubble & squeak night coming on as I still have some left over from last week, yum yum) and when I asked for a cauliflower which was 79p he threw in a nice big january king cabbage too! Always pays to be nice!
Have a good thrifty day all!

Great .... thanks Meg :) I must admit I was a bit disappointed as they're great for growing salad stuff in.

Hi all - limping along with another NSD - the fiscal fast is really focussing me. Dinner tonight is a chicken casserole - eeked out for a second dinner and a lunch.

Tomorrow I am being treated to a works do - fish and chips followed by bowling!

£5.73 in Sainsbury's tonight on pickle, toothpaste, 2 x biscuits (for work), jelly, butter, eggs, satsumas and bananas.

I had a 50p off voucher for the butter so only cost 50p as was on offer.

I have updated my other spends this month too from memory, so may not be exact, but close enough.

    Hey everyone

Spent £8.40 in Lid! last night including a cheeky bottle of wine, plus £2.04 in Mr T on bread and YS pizza. Got 2 more weekly shops to do this month so fingers crossed I should be able to do it!

I finally broke my fiscal fast today and spent less than £20 and only £6.35 was on gc stuff. stock cubes, cheese and that other essential...chocolate! the rest was on passport photos and kids b'day presents for a party at the weekend.
feeling very proud of my 14nsd:D hoping to keep costs very low now for a while, but will need a top up shop, mostly for pet stuff, by the end of the week.

  • Evening all.

Not posted all weekend, as been away in Milan. Just popped by to update today and yesterdays spends.

£14 in Iceland, on breakfast products. Did a nice breakfast for my mum, sister ans OH to chat about my weekend away.

£19 in M&S, usual £6 meal deal, and 3 for £10, with a few extras that OH threw in. Used my £5 MOC.

£2 in ASDA, could not find cheap block butter, so got the spreadable for £2. Will hunt out the price check coupons at Mr T's to hopefully stock up (JTD?)

£5 in Mr T's on cheap cheese, bottled water for DD and other bits.

    Total £40 to add.

This is good, as OH has been home and costs a lot to keep!!! Even he has been suprised about the small amount of money we have spent. He seems to think that if there is a £200 budget, you must spend it!! Oh well, I'll keep trying!
    Have a good evening all!!
    Sally
