    Hi everyone!

A quickie tea tonight Fish Fingers, HM Chips and B Beans. It was nice though:)

I managed to make a Vic*oria Sponge and some Short*read so DH is happy. He likes something HM in his lunchbox.

Also managed to sow some Peppers and Chilli Seeds as well.

DH bought home some bulk buy Onions. He split 25 Kg with 2 pals so we had around 8kg for £3.30p. They are gorgeous quality so really happy with that. DH is getting good at this game:)

    Good Night everyone!

  • cattysmum I use a mr t credit card (paid off each month). Every purchase goes on it and we get lots of mr t vouchers which we swap for deals so get three to four times their value. They tend to be used for rac cover, magazine subscriptions, restaurant vouchers etc.

I can report that the raisin loaf is divine. I had a slice with butter on and it reminded me of a hot cross bun, dd loved it too. I will def make again. For anyone else with a Panasonic bm I think they call it a spiced fruit loaf.

Hi there, Im thinking of changing my spending strategy, what I normally do is when I shop I put everything on my debit card but this month I have decided to take an amount each week out of the bank so yesterday I took out £50 for a shop at Tescos which after multibuys, coupon use and Mocs got my shop down from £68 down to £23, I will be buying OH fish and chips on Thursday which will take my spend up to £27.80 leaving me with £22.20 which I will spin out until next Monday and if I have any left am going to start a second purse, which Iv been wanting to do for a while. What does everyone else do and which works best Cash or debit card grocery shopping??

Cash works the best for me - I an all in a muddle this month, as the cashpoint wasn't working when I did my first shop, and now I'm not sure where I am!

Deffintely cash for me,when I used my card I would often forget how much I had spent, lose receipts and get in a muddle. Now the cash goes into a separate purse,so I know to the penny what I have spent.I also findit makes me think twice when I see it going down too quick.

    Yeah, like wot she sed!!!

    O.M.G......

I'm so proud of myself!! I was going to do a top up shop tonight after college, but though I'd put it off til tomorrow. Well, I have to drive past te$co on my way home, and my left hand was steering me in, and my right hand steering my away. I managed to resist (just!), and thought I'd just go tomorrow to farmf00ds, as stuff is cheaper there. Well, it's not very far at all out of the way on the way home, so I went there tonight to see when their opening hours are. Turns out they were still open and....

I bought bread, loo roll and potatoes.

Nothing else! It came to the grand total of £3.03, so added onto the bits at the weekend which I'm guessing were around £4, my weekly shop has cost about £7!!

I'm going to go to bed a read now, feeling all smug!

    Night all,

Dinner tonight was Bodmin's Herby Chickpea Balls (which have become a new favourite). Served with HM tomato sauce and pasta.

I slow fried 2 chopped onions so they were caramilising, added 2 cloves of garlic and cooked it for a little longer. I added 2 tins of chopped tomatoes and 300ml of veggie stock, some herbs and a tblsp of sugar. Then I let it simmer for 30mins to reduce down.

  • Hi my grocery spend for this week was £78.69 so my total for month so far is £152.35/£450. I can't believe I've reduced my weekly spend from £100 to £75/£80 :). Thanks for all the help on this thread, and I've also had help from other threads too!

Tonight we had cottage pie which I've made lots of times before but this time in a more MSE way. Mince was bought from Second Purse and had been originally bought for £1.67 for 450g from A$da (we usually use 500g for the 4 of us but this was a special offer) - I then bulked it out with vegetables to make it go further (mentioned on this forum) and then added in a couple of spoons of gravy granules as I'd run out of plain flour to thicken the gravy. My family thought it was really tasty, much better than before (and it cost a least a third less :)) - result!

You're right - I was interested to read that! Can't believe that some prices vary that much, when they're only cheap to begin with! You can understand a 20p difference on products that are, say, £3 or more, but when they're only 30p, that's a major percentage!!
My family thought it was really tasty, much better than before (and it cost a least a third less :)) - result!

I love it! That happens here, too, and the other way round as well. Yesterday I used more meat than normal in a cottage pie, and dd didn't like it!! Well done, btw, for getting your grocery spending down! Keep up the good work!

  • I hadn't been keeping up with the Feb thread but will try to with the March one.

We managed to stay under budget last month but it was a bit of a funny month as we were moving homes so I'm keeping the same budget of £250 (Helen I'm happy just to update my sig).

I've already spent £79.79 so far and this should last us for another week or so.

NSD here. We had HM wedges/pizza and salad - grated carrot, celery, onion, red cabbage and tomato for dinner. My Sister phoned just as dinner was ready - so it was in the oven too long - still yummy.

Tomorrow is pork - Mr F managed to find it in the freezer. This will be my last dinner at home until Monday - off to visit family.
