    Just went past a Total service station, near Southfields station (not far from Wimbledon tennis) - 152.9p a litre for diesel.

    I remember as a child when we had the old halfpenny and there was an outrage when one garage sold a gallon of petrol a halfpenny more than another within a local area and people would refuse to go there

    I can understand regional variance's but nowadays you see a difference of up to 10p a litre locally (about 45p ish a gallon difference) yet people still support these garages!

    16d - that would have been 'One (shilling) and Four (pence)' writen as "1/4". Upon decimalisation that would have become 6.5 New P. (6.6667 to be accurate).

    Surely Mr Ree, if you lived through decimalisation you would have known that, and not made the silly mistake of inflating it to 8p.

    Are you really as old and experienced as you sound? If so, may your God help you. :A

    16d = 1s 4d as you rightly say = 7p (or about 8p) ......... and, yes, I'm as old as remembering 1/4 a Gallon!!

    At £2 a litre will people just continue to pay?- I suspect that they will .... people will pay whatever it takes to be mobile and flexible.

    I do more pleasure miles a year than required miles. If I travel on business I get either 45p a mile or a Pool Car, so that's covered - I work 1.5 miles from home so that's nowt.

    Where I end up paying is taking the cars out for a 'Pleasure Run' a drive through the New Forest or drive along the Coast Road in one of the Sports Cars is fantastic - I would pay £10 a litre to do that!

    At what price point will you curtail your driving?

    I would love to drive the Aston on empty roads ........................
