Remember a decade or so ago when diesel was cheaper because most cars didnt use it? Fast forward to today when we have highly efficient much cleaner diesel cars..result? HM Government scare that they might lose out,tax it to death.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Only those where a company is paying for the fuel.

Often there are big Sainsbury's/Tescos not far from some motorway junctions, and I usually make a note of where they are before heading on a long trip to fill up and they usually have a cafe and toilets.

I get company fuel but refuse to pay motorway prices. My bonuses are related to company profit and I'm !!!!!!ed if I'm going to be chucking company money away in motorway services.

On my routes I pretty much know where all the supermarkets and cheaper petrol stations are within a couple of minutes of a motorway junction. It's not just petrol but something like a Tesco £2.50 meal deal would cost at least double in a mortorway services.

If my planning is off and I have to buy at a motorway outlet I normally only put £20 in to keep me going.

Motorway petrol stations always seem to be busy though so plenty don't mind paying inflated prices. As consumers I don't think we put enough pressure on retailers.

No, it's all down to lack of diesel refining.........apparantly.

The taxation of cars (private and company) has changed quite a lot over the last few years. Partly in reaction to the taxation environment cars are as efficient as they've ever been. However, although the government might use taxes to influence behaviour they've always seen motorists as cash cows so once the behaviour has been changed they'll want to ensure that the tax take doesn't reduce.

It's like excuse of the day.

Let's face it. Fuel tax is a major economic income source for the government. They have come to rely on it. We might as well burn more fuel by buying V8s - it's being patriotic!

If we get Hydrogen powered cars, you'd have to and buy your special "Shell EcoWater" - heavily taxed of course ;)
  • i would think government is a "government" and think towards how to revive the economy. it is obvious that if fuel prices goes up the spending goes down and so the economy. is not it better to subsidise the fuel ?
