Perennial Bumper Pack - Thompson & Morgan

  • I'm glad I decided not to go for the so called bumper pack of 20 plants worth £100 and feel for those who have been left disappointed.

I see in the latest issue of Gardeners' World magazine T&M have an offer for 36 perennials "worth" £20 for £4.90. I went for a similar offer a couple of years ago and was pleased with what they sent. They were large plugs, which although they needed potting on, established really quickly.

It's interesting to note that the GW offer is 36 plants worth £20 (approx 55p a plant) whereas the other offer was 20 plants "worth" £100 (£5 a plant) which works out nearly 10 times more expensive

I was quite chuffed with mine, even though they weren't originally worth £100, I'm more than happy to have got 20 plants for £10!

6 of them were looking sorry for themselves and did not recover even after potting on. So, I rang them today to complain and without any complaining (though I was geared up!) she said they'd send out another collection in May when they're next ready for despatch. I asked her if she wanted the names of the ones that have died, and she said "No, we'll just have to send you another pack." Suits me :j

Good customer service I would say.

I haven't been able to find that offer. Could you tell me where it is please?

I picked up some hawthorn seeds in a lay by a while ago and now these are 50 healthy seedlings. :D

Bearing in mind that decent hawthorn whips cost a couple of quid each, have I got £200 worth of plants for absolutely nothing, and should I start a thread about it? ;)

I was also a little disappointed - several appeared dead on arrival. Wasn't interested really in the seeds. The ones that did arrive had several very similar varieties and all desperately needed potting up.

I did pot up the dead looking ones and they did come back, but they're not exactly thriving. As for filling the borders, they've filled two 2m long and 20cm troughs at the moment.

Worth £100? No, definately not, that's just cheeky.

Worth £10? Just about - but I wouldn't have chosen these particular plants out of choice so a bit of a false economy.

Jumbo plug does seem like a bit of a contridiction - I expected something almost resembling a standard plant pot without the pot. What I got was something that resembled a standard plug plant.

Have you phoned to complain? Like I said below, they immediately offered to send me another collection

If you must buy a pig in a poke, I can recommend these:

I don't grow the perennial mix, as I prefer named varieties, but I like the hardy shrubs & trees one; it's almost as good as the ones I [STRIKE]pinch[/STRIKE] collect myself. :D

Bought the supposed £100 worth of plants delivered in March. Total waste of money! miniscule pligs, some already dead. Nothing has come of any of them.

DO NOT BUY FUSCHIA pack currently on offer unless you want to throw your money down the drain!

I received this pack end March, think I ordered about 6 weeks before that. It was a total waste of money!
