Quick Blue badge parking question thanks

Hi,

My Mum has just been awarded a BB and I have (as the driver) carefully read the info booklet which came with it. But I have a quick question.

I know we can park on double yellows for 3 hours and mustn't return for one hour.

But say it is for example Scarborough sea front. So you park to paddle and then transfer car approximately a mile ish down the road to the Spa Theatre to listen to the concert.

When you move the car that distance does the 3 hours start again when you get to the second parking spot?

Or does it depend on the name of the road so eg you could park on A road for 3 hours and then go around the corner to B road and park again for 3 hours?

Really confused and it would be great if someone could advise.

Really grateful for any help. I have Googled it but to no avail.

  • If you park your cark on road A and stay for 3 hours, then you have to move but can come back after an hour and the 3 hours start again, if you park there for 3 hours then move to road B your 3 hours start all over again, in other words, if you park in road A for 2.5 hours then move to road B you dont have just half an hour, you start again with the full 3 hours.

Last time I was at Scarborough even BB halders couldt legally park on the double yellows on the front as there are signs on the lamp posts for a clear way, people were parking thier but they will get tickets when the wardens feel like it and they wont have a leg to stand on.

In general you dont park on double yellow lines even as a BB holder as its illegal in most cases or it causes obstructions.

Great so provided the road you swap to has a different name than the first road you parked on then everything is fine.

I just looked on Google maps. On the seafront (South Bay) there are sections of double yellows with the double perpendicular blips meaning no parking but there are special sections marked out as Disabled with white dashed lines. There are some near the lifeboat area and some others down near where the donkeys usually are. They should be fine as I have seen other cars there with badges.

I don't plan to deliberately seek out yellow lines but will park wherever it most benefits my Mum. (as long as it is lawful)

    Thanks,

No its is fine to park there just not all the way along the front. Just selected areas.

My question was more how far you had to move away from the original parking spot (so that the 3 hours started again) rather than whether I could park there.

    Thanks anyway,

    PL

PS Plus most of the side streets are too steep.

  • Never been to Scarborough so dont know anything about the yellow line parking, but what has been said about the 3 hour rule is correct, you can park in one street for 3 hours then move to another street for another 3 hours
  • The real question is :

    - not where the BB is valid
    - but where the BB is not valid
    - or where the BB is valid, but not at certain times

    - I was there yesterday, in fact I'm there about once every 6 weeks
    - the PCNs are very active since park 'n ride was introduced
    - as you wish my friend, you should read the 7 occurrences where a blue disabled badge is not valid even when displayed
    - ditto .. .... more than 7 for not displaying a clock :D
