eeh, a luv Scarbough, me.:Dmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I live in Scarborough. There are many designated parking spaces for blue badges some are on road, others in bays slightly off the road. They are very keen on sea front so make sure you adhere to the sign. I cant remember exact time limits off hand, although I have used them usually not at weekends as its very busy down there
We have zones in Scarborough so usually means you can return and park within certain time frame. Although there are quite a few disabled spaces they often full both near sea front and in town, I sometimes have to drive around or park on yellow lines only in certain areas and not obstructing.0 -
My concern for the O/P, is as many BB holders know, - the understanding of the Blue Book Handbook and the corresponding understanding Local Authority's interpretation of the rules are often times quite different because of local parking restrictions. Different between local areas and different between say Scotland / Wales and England.
Experience long term BB holders get caught quite often, a newbie intending to use yellow line parking [if they are not causing an obstruction to other road users and if there is a no loading restriction in place in that zone before they leave their vehicle] for three hours while 'paddling in the sea' and then sticking it on yellows around Stephen Joseph or the Spa is certainly looking for, and will get a fine.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. I have had to get off a bus and walk thanks to selfish BB holders who have parked on double yellows and the bus has been unable to get past so it was either wait until the car driver could be found or walk. The traffic jam was dreadful.
I don't think anyone should be allowed to park on double yellow lines...they are there for a reason.0 -
You can park on yellow lines but you must not cause a obstruction, sadly common sense is missing for a small minority who do this. This is made clear to all blue badge holder when they first get there badgekrisskross wrote: »I have had to get off a bus and walk thanks to selfish BB holders who have parked on double yellows and the bus has been unable to get past so it was either wait until the car driver could be found or walk. You can find out about Blue Badge parking spaces in your area from your local authority
on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, unless there is a ban on loading or unloading
at 'on-street' parking meters and pay-and-display machines for free and for as long as they need to
in disabled parking bays0 -
May also be worth pointing out that if you're in an on street parking bay with a time restriction on it (up to an hour, no return with one hour is common where I live) that you need to look at the ends of the bays.
If it's a single white line at the end, then that bay forms part of a wider set of bays, and the 'no return within one hour' applies to that set.
If it's a double line at the end, then you're at the end of a bay / set of bays, and if you move to the inside of another double white line, you're in a new set, and the clock starts again.
I hope that makes sense ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Yes I've read the booklet ta and am quite up to date with the Highway Code. It is very clear except for not explaining how far you had to be from your original space if you wanted to park there for another three hours.
Indidentally before I posted on here yesterday I emailed Scarborough Borough Council for their advice. No reply yet but I will copy and paste and post on here what they say as it might help someone else.Shopaholic

Thanks for the advice. It is a good couple of hours drive from where my Mum lives so we tend to arrive early. I'm working part time this year (yay!) so am looking forward to being able to take her in the week and not be tied to busy weekends. She loves the Spa Orchestra.Shopaholic

Ta - I'm quite clued up where the spaces are locally though it is just places like cities and resorts that I'm not sure about. I guess the answer is to park up and then read the signs really carefully or ask a parking warden if there's one about. I've always found them very obliging whenever I've had a query.
Really excited about getting the badge though as it will make such a difference to her.Shopaholic
