Baggage handler/thief stole our cash on Easyjet flight

easyJet and others like them will say 'no' if they think they can and get away with it. Have a look over on the flight delay compensation board, lots of information there. Btw always say 'extraordinary' circumstances, not exceptional.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

You may be able to pursue delay compensation depending on the reason for it but I don't see much hope in getting them to pay for your lost camcorder.0

Same thing happened to me flying from Prague to Gatwick. Had a small suitcase, I was informed that I HAD to put this suitcase in the hold. I forgot that I had left £60 in my suitcase (I took it out of my wallet when I got to Prague).
Can I also please add that whilst these comments suggesting it was stupid to leave money in a checked buggage are somewhat correct, it was never my intention to put it in there and I packed accordingly. If I was intending to get my bag in the hold then I obviously never would have put money in there. It was a simple moment where I just wanted to make sure I had my phone and my kindle so I would have something to do on the plane.
Comments like these deflect from the fact that something has been stolen from me and that I don't feel I should have to absorb this loss. £60 isn't really worth going through my travel insurance once excess is taken into account. Therefore, I'm intrigued to know whether anyone has had success claiming from the airline?0 -
My sympathies for the OP and good luck in trying to get anything out of Easyjet.
It's 20 years since I've put a bag in the hold of an aircraft.Everything I need for a holiday I can get into hand luggage - even when we took the kids away when they were young we all used rucksacks ( they used their schoolbags.
It saved hours hanging round at airports and running the risk of having baggage lost or not even on the flight which happens reasonably frequently when travelling with chums who up until that point usually laugh at how little I travel with.
I mean do people REALLY need to take a hairdryer with them on holiday any more ?0 -

The point I and many other posters were making is that we couldn't put a suitcase in the hold. As such, I think this is a bit of a grey area and one that I would hope someone has had some success claiming their losses back?
As far as I'm concerned, it is no different from falling asleep on a flight and an attendant stealing your wallet. We put trust in a company and they, or the people they hire have screwed up and they should be held accountable0 -
Sorry to hear of the loss of goods in this way.
I do realise the issue is with EJ, but on two flights recently with Ryanair, the following happened -
In the queue for boarding within the airport, the attendant came around and asked for volunteers to put their bags in the hold for free. Many accepted. Before she put the tag on she asked them to remove any valuables, medication etc. from the bag and she would be back when she had gotten to the end of the queue. All who opted took everything out that they felt was needed, there was no rush. And I suppose now that RYR allow a separate man or woman bag in addition to the cabin case, they found a place to stash the goods.
On the second flight, we had to check in a bag anyway, so at the check in, the lady looked at our hand luggage and said you can check those in if you wish, no extra charge. Now as we had to go to the carousel in any event for the main bag we said Yay, no searching for room in the overhead bins, yes please!
Then the lady said, take your time. Make sure you have EVERYTHING you need for the flight and arrival. Have you got your money, phone, medication, passports, travel documents? Take them out now where I can see you do it! It was all very friendly, and saved us loads of hassle.
I do not wish to get on anyone's nerves, but given that even when hand luggage fits in the bins, it sometimes ends up many seats behind you due to lack of space over your own seat. Who is to say another passenger wouldn't rummage and rob in those circumstances? So I ALWAYS carry the vitals in the additional bag. Money, keys, phone, passport, medication. No exceptions.
I hope things work out for those who have been unfortunate.0 -
I'd NEVER put 450Euros in hold baggage! It would be easy enough to carry it with you in a zipped pocket which I always make sure I have in whatever jacket I'm wearing for the flight.
With the last minute panic they may not have thought nor had time to unpack and retrieve it and reasonably thought that having left it at the plane steps, it should be safe..and so it should !
By the way, Ryanair also do this. They guarantee only the first 90 (?) cabin bags. After that they start to yellow label hand luggage which means it goes in the hold.
I think part of this is because there is a small proportion of passengers who are complete stumours. They think they are flying in their own private jet. First they cant read the ticket to ascertain what their seat number is and which steps to take (front or rear) then they cant read the row number, then it takes them all day to sit down, take their coat off, put their bag up and faff about..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
For all the clever people that say it could not be stolen at luton or wherever departure airport during the "cabin" bag being put at the bottom of the airplane steps to going on the plane loading belt.......A baggage handler gets into the plane to stack the bags.......unseen to anyone it is easy to rifle a few bags as more are loaded.....so think on bagand96Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

Indeed,it is a tragedy these days that people cant be trusted. If its not baggage handlers its the postoffice..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry).
