well, just done some seed sowing, spring onions, beans, salad leaves, corn salad, spinach in six lined wash baskets.
sprinkled the seeds on top, mashed em in the soil with my hands, patted in down, no need for watering cos the soil was wet

We have sun this morning, although cloud too, not going to complain about the rain as I know some poor souls are desperate for it.
Free tomato seeds came from Dolmio yesterday so they are sewn.Debt Free Dec 2009non-smoker 19th Nov 2010Trying to lose weight 40lb/42lb

I finally have tomatoes germinated and on the go, it took quite a while and they're still teeny-tiny but it's a start. I haven't received my dolmio freebies yet, but the RHA pack came yesterday, so that's more toms amongst that lot. I might have to check some dates as I do not think I have the space for the ones that I already have!!!
The peas have now gone out into the new veggy bed in the back garden and I have the first signs of my carrots that I did in a pot 3 weeks ago. So I am beginning to feel as though I have the chance for something to hope for!
Oh and flowers on one of my strawberry plants - very exciting. Must get an old pair of tights up on that today to stop Mr Blackbird who has been having a good old nosy at the baskets! :rotfl:
Enjoy the 'sun' for those of you who can play out today.Perpetual Lurker!

Don't worry you'll not need a lot of space for the Dolmio one, there are only about 12 seeds, not that I am complaing, they were free and if half of them germinate that will be enough for me.Debt Free Dec 2009non-smoker 19th Nov 2010Trying to lose weight 40lb/42lb

Our sweetcorn succeeded last year at the first attempt, although we only got one cob per plant. But it was worth it.
One cob per plant? Down in the sunny south I only had one cob per plant AND they were all scoffed by badgers!Tim0 -

I'm on the coast in Yorkshire. Does anyone have any recommendations for which seeds to sow that will give me flowers along a high fence? I've just dug a border along about 18ft of fence in a bid to tidy up our dull side garden. It gets the sun in the afternoon and the soil seems in quite decent condition. I cant afford millions of bedding plants so thought seeds would do the job bit I've no idea which. I'd like them all to be one colour too but dont really care what colour that would be.
I grow lettuce and toms etc in the back garden in a raised bed - this will be my first foray into flowers:)
Grateful for any hints you could give.Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!0 -
Hello to Little Vics & everyone else in Yorkshire  I'd like to join in as well, please.
I'm a gardening newbie & so far I've sown mint, basil, peppers, nasturtiums, sweet peas & french marigolds (waiting impatiently for them all to germinate...) I have plans for potatoes, chillis, strawberries, raspberries, maybe squash?? Most things will have to be grown in pots, troughs etc. although I'm now thinking along the lines of raised beds as well.
louise, I'm on the N.Yorks coast & I'm going to say sweet peas or nasturtiums, but being a novice myself am probably totally wrong!! :rotfl:'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Eek, I didn't know that!! I have just dug out some runners this afternoon & planted them in a wooden planter together. To be honest I'm not really expecting them to do much this year (but am secretly praying that they do
).
I posted this pic on mbe's thread but I'll post it on here as well, why not!!

I know I'll have to take some out when they get bigger but I'm hoping they'll be ok in there for this year.'A watched potato will never chit'...0
