concentrate on easy to grow plants to build your confidence

like strawbs, which can be planted now

any Ive planted in summer commit suicide

    variety is key for flavour

buy mara des bois or gariguette or alpines (though alpines are very poor croppers)

I have zero confidence in my plant growing skills. This is my first attempt at growing fruit and vegetables! I only have a tiny plot on the garden as much of the rest is taken over with established plants.

I have 2 strawberry plants, a blueberry plant, and some alpine strawberry seeds at the moment. Reading though some gardening magazines for inspiration!

My cherry and apple trees finally arrived yesterday and they are now planted. I so want a raspberry plant in a pot but I don't think I have room. :( Plastic greenhouse thing is all set up and seed trays will be filled with compost tomorrow.

My compost bin is going quite well ( I think!!) and it feels much less wasteful to put things in there.

Alpine strawvberries are often grown from seed because thay do not produce runners.

It is the raspberry that worries me; they are woodland plants and like lots of moisture so they do not do well in containers. Also one cane will barely supply any fruit, at least until next year.

I am checking my seeds every day! Think I am getting a bit obsessed!

The raspberries are sold as 3 canes on some sort of trellis thing in a pot - I think it was £25 so v expensive! Might just stick with simpler plants.

Hi I'm in Yorkshire too. I've got small flower buds on my blackcurrants, can't see any on the red currants yet, all 4 bushes were planted last year, they are from poundstretcher.

Got courgettes and buttenut squash plants on my bedroom windowsill, both from left over seeds last year. managed to kill the butternut squash last year before getting them in the ground, so anything is an improvement on that.

Have some peas planted also, a bit early, but its just such lovely weather, have my fleece at the ready should they decide to germinate.

I am waiting for some seeds from the mirror token offer, but I am limited to where to put things in the back garden as I have dogs.

  • I've just put some peas in, but they're currently indoors on a sunny windowledge hoping that they will be ready for planting out in a wee while.

I'm kinda just bumbling along with this planting to be honest, it's my first year (with the exception of the two apple trees that came with the house and a pot of carrots that never made it) and I'm over in the Garforth side of Leeds.

I have chillies, basil and oregano already planted up on the windowledge and carrot, sweetcorn, tomatoes, aubergines and parsnips seeds ready to go in at what I think is a sensible time, and when I say what I think, I mean what you lovely people advise me on here!!!!

I bumble along too - when I can be bothered to get out and do stuff! I'm slightly overwhelmed by my dandelion issue at the moment.

I'm hoping to start some seeds off this weekend. I've been very very lazy....oops.
