I know NOTHING about the pros and cons of Flat screens, HD, wide screens , digital or plasma etc. All I know is that I need a new TV asap, with minimum fuss, maximum guarantee/reliability, all the latest 'features' and obviously as reasonable as possible price wise - I cannot afford thousands!!
I have trawled thru, and done a query, all to no avail, so thought I would ask outright from scratch.
I can hit the shops tomorrow, but do I head to Currys/Comet etc, or Asda/Tesco/Sainsburys or Argos, or my local electrical store ?
Are Currys/Comet and my local stores likely to 'do me a deal' on the price they advertise, or is the price fixed ? Could I maybe talk them into throwing in a portable for the PS2, or a new DVD player ?
Also, I notice on the search engines often the cheapest 'suppliers' are companies I have never heard of, presumably they are purely order & delivery via internet shoppers. I have never bought anything THIS large or expensive on the net before. Can I shop with confidence, or is their back-up none-existant ?
I have seen some TVs with healthy mark downs, which are presumably old models, but with the pace of technology these days, will an 'old' model be money badly spent ?
Any features I definitely need to look for, or ones to avoid ?
The TV will be mainly used for viewing via an old sky box ( just got the half price for a year deal !!!) plus the kids watching DVDs and Videos ( yes I still have some, and my VCR still works, although it makes a dreadful noise !). They also play the PS2 ( new one courtesy of Asda last month), so it should hopefully be able to accommodate all these - though not all at once necessarily, and I do have all the leads etc !;)
Any and all advice and warnings will be much appreciatedI know that once a pushy salesman starts his jargon-filled speil I will be completely confused and either buy anything just to get out asap, or come home without one and be lynched !!:D
p.s If I have posted this in the wrong area, please move - thanks
Good morning !
After spending half the night doing 'searches' and trawling thru the threads I posted this on the "I wanna buy it" thread - I have now found this one and hence moved it here !!
I have just spent the last hour reading thru this thread - which has obviously answered lots of the questions I asked, even if it hasn't exactly cleared the water....
Eldest kids watch football and racing etc, youngest watches wildlife.......talk about technology making life easier, it certainly makes it harder/more complicated to make the right choice !!!.....I may even trek down to see if the Panasonic is repairable !!
I would still appreciate anyones input into my dilema. I may understand more now about HD ready, HDMI connections and 720p and 1080 (thanks to 6 pages of postings), but it is still useful to know which TVs actually have a good picture, which companies are useless at aftercare, and which makes have a good reputation.
Many thanks0 -
