    Who are think4.com?

    Are they reliable?

Having an 0870 number prominently displayed at the top of the screen doesn't exactly inspire confidence...
  • I have had stuff of them in the past and found they are reliable.
  • Ok I admit, it may just be me -

    BUT

I can't help feeling that there is an element of the emporers new clothes about these bitg LCD TVs.
Apart from the top branded ones, the picture quality seems a lot fuzzier on these sets, and the bigger the screen the more pixelated they seem. I know they are nice and flat, and with an HD box, may give a brill picture (maybe), but is everyone who has bought one realy convinced that it gives you a better picture than a conventional CRT?
I have been looking in all the shop windows as I pass and I am not convinced.....

Part of it is that the lovely high resolution makes it easier to see some of the things that a CRT hides through being a little fuzzy. Plug your Freeview or satellite box in, for example, and you'll see all the blocky artefacts of digital transmission twinned with the fact that the deinterlacer inside the TV isn't good at scaling the SCART input up to the TV's resolution.

Try hooking up a PC equipped with a Freeview tuner, and driving an LCD TV at its native resolution. It'll look much better than it did with a Freeview box. The same applies with DVDs - a computer playing a DVD through an LCD TV will do much better than a standalone DVD player connected through SCART.

Is it money-saving, though, using a PC to drive your new TV? Well, it saves you having to spend hundreds more on a top-brand TV to get a better quality picture, and if you've got a computer in the living room anyway, all you need are a few cheap parts.
