I was thinking of a Tempur mattress (I have the pillows) but was put off by several people telling me they got so hot.
I went for a pocket sprung that has a winter side with a warm over-padding, and a cool summer side. It's lovely!Save £12k in 2022 thread #7:

Is there any reason why you can't get a cheap memory foam topper (about £80 ish) from somewhere like QVC, where you can return it under the distance selling guarantee thingummywotsit after having used it? Then use that to decide whether you do or don't want to spend a fortune on a mattress?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

I have had a Tempur mattress for 5 or 6 years and its brilliant.
I have lost the use of my legs and spend a lot of time in bedas a result but I never get pressure sores etc. or to hot (I have the clima cool cover on the mattress)
I also have other physical problems and I cant sleep at all except on "my" mattress, I honestly think if you have physical problems these mattresses are a god send that means you need much less medication.0 -

You need to be able to trial them for a week or so which is something that I've never known a company to allow.Jojo_the_Tightfisted wrote: »Is there any reason why you can't get a cheap memory foam topper (about £80 ish) from somewhere like QVC, where you can return it under the distance selling guarantee thingummywotsit after having used it? I didn't have to return it, I absolutely love it and wish I'd got one years ago! I don't think I will ever go back to a sprung mattress, I suffer from back and shoulder pain and the memory foam mattress has made a massive difference.Dum Spiro Spero0 -

Most toppers come vaccum packaged so it'll be difficult to put back into the packaging. Also DSR's and mattresses are a very grey area as I'm finding out at the moment.
Also DRS's don't give you the right to use them as a trail peroid, it's there so you can inspect the goods as you would in a shop.
A cheap memory foam topper would be just that "Cheap", it won't do the job very well.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

IdealWorld shopping channel allow you to 'trial' any product I believe. and I am sure that Tempur do too!0 -
I went into John Lewis and tried one, and within 5 minutes was boiling hot. Didn't help that the shop itself was massively overheated in this very mild weather we're having!
So going by that, it's not going to be the right purchase for me at all!
I'll have to find a good ordinary mattress I think.0 -
I only find them too hot on the occasional, few very hot sticky nights we have in summer. I'd be too hot with a regular mattress on those nights too though. The rest of the time I'm fine but I agree with others who have mentioned using Egyptian cotton sheets and goose down duvets too. Decent bedding makes a huge difference and I find the sheets feel cool. I also never have the heating on while I'm in bed as I prefer a cold room.0

Does the job great for me, never needed to bang out the hundreds of pounds for the mattress after all. And if you hate it, it's a fairly safe bet that the mattress wouldn't be suitable.
DSRs where the TV channel places - like QVC - are concerned, together with their own policies - are very clear, you can test the mattresses properly by sleeping on them.
Not bought a mattress from them myself, but on the nights where I wasn't sleeping and flicked onto the channel in passing, they were absolutely unequivocal that you had the right to sleep on the mattress and if it wasn't suitable, phone and arrange the courier to collect it within the trial period and a full refund would be made.IdealWorld shopping channel allow you to 'trial' any product I believe. and I am sure that Tempur do too!
