memory foam mattresses too hot?

I need a new mattress and have been thinking about getting a memory foam one.

My neighbour said they make you far too hot to sleep in bed. I'm always waking up anyway because of being too hot so certainly won't buy one if this is the case!

Has anyone had experience of this happening?

Yes; we originally had a 2" thick topper over a normal mattress and now have a mattress with the memory foam layer built in. Both will increase the heat level, so you need a thinner/lighter set of covers over you.

Yes, I found my memory foam mattress to be hot. To solve the problem I bought a "feather bed" topper from QVC and a "summer weight" down quilt.

I bought one about a month ago and I am the same I struggle with being too hot and I can honestly say I've had no problems. Infact I'm so pleased I bought it, I love it.
  • The original but expensive :( Tempur mattresses are very good.
The cheaper versions seem to suffer more from the too hot problem.
We tested various ones in the shop by laying on them (shop assistants idea not ours :) ) & could feel the difference within 5 minutes of trying each one.
I think, too, that some people may make the mistake of thinking they need to keep the same thickness of duvets as used on ordinary mattresses.
I've found I only need a fairly lightweight tog all year round.

Yes, l did suffer from over-heating with ours, it's annoying waking up a bit sweaty (seems to happen just before waking or if l lie-in?) but having said that l wouldn't be without the bed it's lush, and l am finding l'm adjusting to it being so warm. I'd still say go for it. :D

    Happy moneysaving all.

Thanks for the input. There's no way I could ever adjust to being any warmer than I get now! I think I'll try some out in the shops.

    Hi
We had to get rid of our memory foam matress topper as it made oh sweat so much ewwww. HTH x p.s I loved it, it was so comfy and warm
Cherish those you have in your life because you never know when they won't be there anymore.

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up & never give up.
  • We had memory foam topper and it was comfortable but DS got it as I was just too hot . Now we have a mattress with built in foam layer . We've had a light duvet on all year with a fleece blanket also for very cold nights . Still warm , but not uncomfortably so .
  • My neighbour paid a heck of a lot of money for one and had to resort to turning it over due to being too hot.

I just purchased a topper which I find ok
  • I am thinking about getting a new mattress or topper and I have been wondering about memory foam. I have memories of a really comfortable foam mattress in a caravan. But I am afraid of being too hot, and DH is already like a radiator! I also like to feel the weight of a duvet over me so would not want to change for a lighter one to compensate.
    Are there different sorts?
