in Credit cards
I just checked my credit file on call credit and Capital One has registered a CIFAS marking on my credit file, which i am EXTREMELY worried about.
It says this.
Name Used:Mr xxxxxxxe
Date of birth:1899-12-30
Address:xxxxxxxx
Unique Reference Number:xxxxx
Filing Member:Capital One (Europe) PLC
Fraud Category:Victim of Impersonation
Filing Date:24/01/2012
I have recently applied for a Capital One card, but in my application, i 100 percent didn't put that DOB down.
What exactly does this marker mean? Will effect my credit file? Can i get it removed? Has someone tried to take credit out in my name?

That might be why all your current applications are being declined?

I checked my call credit report for the last week, and on the new report today 24/02/2012 it has appeared, - If they filed it on the 24/01/2012 and it didn't appear on my file for another month would credit companies asscoiated with CIFAS - would they know i had a CIFAS marker?Tremour-88 wrote: »Read about it here, http://www.cifas.org.uk/pr its a fraud entry onto your file so yes it will effect it alot.
thanks, could be why i have been rejected of late0 -
Just contacted CAP1, they said they will pass it on to the relevant department and i should hear a reponse back by Tuesday. I really think it's a mistake on Capital One, due to the date of birth entry. I can rememeber making an application in January, and i believe it was near the 24th but im 100 percent sure i gave the right DOB as i made an enquiry about the application in that month and gave my right DOB.
Hopefully they will remove it, do you think i should ask for some compensation? I believe it has effected me of late in getting credit.0 -

Wouldn't be anything to do with all the applications you keep making then, reading all your various past fantasy posts you have a fixation about trying to get credit.

capital one has helped you stop applying for credit, you should be paying themDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

You have a category 2 fraud marker on your credit file- as do many others in the UK. This means at some point in the last 13 months, in this case, Capital One feel that you have been a VICTIM of impersonation. Now this could be due to a third party using your details to (try to) obtain credit. Or, it is an application that you have made yourself and there is an error on there and at this point Capital One have been unable to verify if it was you who made the application for fear of tipping off the fraudster, eg- If they attempted to contact the applicant (in this case you) as they were unsure if it was genuine or not they may inadvertently contact the fraudster who would just say "yes it was me" and hey presto they have a card in your name. This is a case of better be safe than be sorry by Capital One.
If this is a genuine application made by you then they will remove the Cat 2. I would check with your bank to make sure that no DD's have been set up that you don't know about (especially mobile phones and pay day loan companies) as these can be quick wins for fraudsters.
I speak from experience as I used to do something similar for another financial provider.0
