'Important Changes to your Virgin Media account'

I received a letter today telling me that my Virgin Media bill will increase by £1.50 a month from 1st April.
I currently pay £17 a month for 10MB broadband, which is £4 off their usual £21 price, so that will go up to £18.50 which is a fair amount just for broadband. Has anyone else negotiated a better discount with Virgin for broadband alone?

Hi there
Similar letter received here. I pay £15-95 for their S broadband package alone.
The letter states mine will rise by £2 a month.
I'll be phoning next week. Sure £2 isnt much but its an almost 13% increase!0 -
I had a letter today and mines going up by £5.10 per month! I have broadband, phone and TV. I think this is an extortionate increase! I am still tied into my contract but wonder whether there's anyway I can get out of it due to the price increase?0

The small print on the back of the letter states "If you do not wish to be bound by these changes you can cancel your contract with us without penalty".0 -
did the letter ITEMISE what the factors that made the increase up?
Im still trying to get this out of VM, they say its in the letter, but I've heard two others say the letter has no break down.
When I asked CS they couldn't figure out how they had calculated the increase - tbh its an absolute farce.0 -
Yes, I was still in contract but called to say that the increases were the last straw for me and I felt I was paying far too much ( I always get a retentions deal every renewal time). They agreed I could come out of contract without penalty. They offered me about £4 off my current pricing but I told them to just cancel. They gave me a date for disconnection and my boxes collected.
Two days later I got a call from retentions who asked for feedback why I was leaving..I had been a loyal customer for 4 years blah blah, they offered my the deal again for £4 off, I declined and he said he would give me the next 3 months free of charge for all services, I would stay out of contract and hopefully a new offer would come onto my account which I would be happy with. I confirmed I was definately not signing a new contract and he said no.
I am happy with this, 3 months free and wait for a new offer to come up. I think they are hoping I will forget to cancel in 3 months:rotfl:.....they obviously don't know me!
Hope this helps

Well I just called them to Give notice on my account quoting section j if their terms and conditions which basically says if they increase the price you can leave before the end of your contract with no penalty. It was fine abd they are letting me go penalty free. They didn't offer me any incentives to stay though. We currently pay £110 per month for unlimited telephone, 50mb BB and the full TV package with v+ in 2 rooms. He said my price is already heavily discounted and I should be paying £150 so they can't offer me anything better! I've told my husband all along were being ripped off but he was having none of it!
I'm hopeing now that retentions will call in a few days with some kind of offer. Fingers crossed!0 -
I phoned up and they said they can't lower the price as I get two separate discounts, £5 and £4. They confirmed I am paying £17 a month at the moment, so it's only a £4 discount I get so I think they were wrong about that. Apparently if I want to disconnect there "may be a charge" as I am still under contract, which is contrary to what the letter said. I have left it as it is for now. Has anyone here had better luck? What's the lowest price anyone has been able to get for broadband only on Virgin?0

That deal would suit me perfectly! would give me a reduction of £12.50 ish p/m over the year which takes it down to my comfort level of paying for this type of service!
What package were you on?
I also rang and said this latest increase was the last straw - no wonder they were so busy when I rang to cancel, I had to wait but everyone seems like they are cancelling at the moment! Hope they ring me back and offer me something similar...0 -
