Sometimes it revs and doesn't accelerate in higher gears, maybe it's slipping,
I think you have misrepresented the car and you knew it was slipping. Why else would you pay £1860 + £700 and then sell it for £900.
Not often I think this about private sales but I think you will lose if she takes it to court.
Your best bet will be to have the clutch repaired and then re-sell.0 -
A slipping clutch is a fault you should have made her aware of.If not for legal reasons, then moral ones.Plus its less hassle in the long run of someone coming back to you complaining.
If you are strapped for cash atm, then start by offering half of the bill at a local garage you can both agree on(not main dealer). At least you are showing willing and she has the benefit of a brand new clutch that should last her many years.0 -
That's why you should never buy off ebay without a test drive.
I never hand over the money until I've driven the car. If it's as described, we're both good with that.
As to having to see the car and drive before you bid, I don't have time for that with a car I probably won't win, and if there's 200 watchers, if you were the seller, would you really want them all round?0 -

I am more than aware of thisThe word is also 'hydraulic'.
However I am dealing with a similar situation with somebody over a 4x4 vehicle.......

Less than 2 hours from receiving the car and the buyer has sussed out that the clutch is on its dying breath, hardly surprising she's slightly cheesed off.
Buyers fault in a way, she should have judged the seller better, the seller who by the way was fully aware there was a clutch problem.
I appraise the vendor as much as the product these days, less likely to get scenarios like this.0 -
Although she did not buy it through eBay directly (I don't think?), she has the proof she saw the advert on eBay AND that you approached her to buy it through eBay. Therefore what you wrote about the car in the advert stands as the description of the car. The description must be accurate. If you said there were no problems, and there is a significant problem (clutch), you must give a refund because she had rejected the car in good time on the basis of not as described.
I think this may hinge on the description, but I also have to say, if it went to Court, that Court would probably sympathise with her, buying a car in good faith, described as a good car in the listing, and it turns out to be a dud...0
