Yay! Builder has quoted reasonably to make the barn safe and more weatherproof. :D

There will be plenty of blocks left for the house extension if we buy a whole lorry load at trade price, so that's what we'll do. The big car park at the front is going to come in extra handy now , as intended. It will shrink after the build, to give us a prettier outlook.

Looks like a decent day again. :)

As for me... recovery continues slowly.

I think we should postpone. You need to get well and strong and be well rested, and it looks like I am about to lose the little power from my boiler that I have :(

    I am extremely, extremely aggravated.

Our boiler which on paper should have been an ok size is too small, and the ndependant assessor said we should have had one not the size up that has been mooted but two sizes up. Small hotel sized:rotfl::mad:
  • Oh, LIR. :(
It's not just the money (budget for build) it's the sheer hassle.
    What will you do?

    I just don't know.

The utility was built specifically to house this, we do not know if we can fit one two sizes bigger in, And the hopper will almost certainly not fit.

We have some options. This boiler would do just the central heating with no hw demand, so a second boiler or alternative source for hw? Assessor does not like most renewable but he did reiterate ours is not the kit but rather the application that's not right.

There is a further complication. We wanted a cylinder that took three heat sources, we have been provided one that will only ever take two sources of heat.

First thing to do is progress the complaints proceedure now. Then make a decision. Airsource powered by pv perhaps.

I knew I never wanted pellets, but how much I didn't want them is now very heavy in my mind.

The simple answer is, we do not have the budget for it, but it will have to be found.

Otoh, depending when this happens I might have a two small for us good bit of kit wood pellet boiler for sale. (I am guessing the copmpany will want it back when settlement is reached.)
  • I share the assessor's view on renewables, :o
It's not that I don't believe that they are a necessity for the future but that they are usually foisted on the public before enough is known about their real suitability/sustainability/economy etc.

The National Park is offering up to £3K grants for people "off-grid" to install such systems for heating. I have no idea what the systems on which you'd get a 3 grand grant must cost _pale_ but, sadly, I think there will be several more people who find themselves in your position.

Unfortunately, most of these sustainable schemes seem to me to be little more than ways for the installers & manufacturers to make money.
I don't think it will be long before the PV/bio/eco salesmen become the 21st century equivalent of the 20th century double glazing salesman.

I think, if I were in your position, I'd opt for another, additional alternative system. That way, if there are problems with one you will, hopefully, have something else to fall back on. Of course, budgets are the thing which eventually dictate what is possible & when.
