Ctc, as you know we have the same restrictions. But evenings are never an option for us. Plus the weekend is the only time we are together.

The weeks where no progress is made are truely depressing, and while the builders did great guns last year, lots of the progress we made has slipped back because of my summer.

This saturday looks like a strimming Saturday.

Two fields (about 1/4 mile) between me & the coast. Woods about 150 yards in other direction. Make me an offer :rotfl:

Wrong end of the country for me ~ I'm Caledonia dreamin' ;)
    Does sound lovely though.

Hope everyone enjoyed their pancakes yesterday ~ after spending over an hour & a half glued to the hob I've decided I'm buying ready-made next year!!

I was in Morrison's this morning & walked past bags of compost in the gardening aisle ~ the lovely earthy smell just made me want to start sowing seeds & get digging!! :D Not much chance of that though ~ it's freezing here & we have snow forecast for later.

Hope everyone is well & keeping warm.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday all looking good here....:D
....which just leaves today! :rotfl:No snow likely though, as we're at 6.5C, but it feels colder.

Looking into windows and it seems that the ones which were fitted here in very late 2008 can't just be re-located to new build locations as we'd planned in some instances. Their glass doesn't meet the new eco standards. Luckily, DW's found out that the glass can be changed quite easily. :j

Also, it just happens that the local window people's main interest is in timber framed construction, so there's another thought....Put up a single outside skin and then bish, bash, bosh, do the rest with factory made panels and insulation a la Scandinavia. Apparently, besides it being quick, the u values are good. :)

Aarrgghh! I can see us turning into project managers again...:(

You won't remember, but just before Christmas we had to turn around because I'd forgotten a river which had submerged the road. Here's a piccie I took:

It turns out that road won't be used for a while yet! :(

Davesnave, love the idea of quick build with timber frame.

Dare I ask how prices compare? We have to build something in timber frame (listed requirements) and it would be handy to do it sooner rather than later....but even cheaper is not cheap enough ATM.

On the positive side, my bare root roses arrived today. Only a handful this winter, budgets being as they are.

We have had snow again, but not sticking. I had no prior warning so the weather alert system is not functional.

The wind remains from the south so it's not as glacial as it could be. Annoyingly parent has gone out and taken the key so I am locked in. Meaning I am gettiong edgy about afternoon chores, especially the birds.

No idea yet on prices, but I guess it might be hard to beat two quick brickies at the rates paid around here, remembering it's blocks not bricks.

Just putting in an order for hedging myself, before it's too late. :)

Probably won't do the boundary between us and the thatchers ATM, but we will have to think about it, as their (deer) fence isn't in the best of shape and I can't see them having any interest in replacing or maintaining it. Stock won't have access to the hedge I put there, so I'm thinking laurel, but maybe I will be kind and go hornbeam.

Grumble grumble we have had snow most of the day here and it is freezing cold  although on the plus side it has not really been settling ;)

My beans are growing really well and I smile every time I walk past them in the hall.

We have decided this year to ask friends to help us in our garden to get things cleared and planted and we will return the favour for them. That should make the work seem less of a chore and more a social afternoon. I refuse to let the garden be anything other than a pleasure for me this year :D (no you are not allowed to quote this back at me when I moan later in the year ;))

I'm really curious about your past life now, rum. Do tell....

It's been bting cold winds and rain here, but no snow. Don't know which is worse.

Things always seemed to be planned for "next week"....
