    Ok,

Well, we are rural, but.......I can sort of understand mr and mrs twonk not wanting something with pp for storage or animal use to be a regularly used work shop.

Personally, opf I were retiring to a little rural place I would not want to live with a workshop with a terrible radio station playing I think. (but then, nor would I want to live in the barn complex!).

Otoh, planning will most likely be granted if applied for, would you not think?

The main barn, about 80' long 60' wide is used for storage. It's in an open barn tucked behind that where the blocks were made. So the Twonks couldn't see the operation, or even hear much, barring the Fordson, which is used to move & load thatch anyway. There was also a cutting/squashing machine which ran for a max of 2 hours a week. All this is directly behind us, so I know how little went on. After a couple of hours they'd run out of room to store more blocks. It's not a big enterprise.

I don't know the current state of play. When horsey lady next door and I got wind of the complaint, we both wrote to the council in support of the thatchers. The council man wrote back to say he... "wasn't treating it as a matter of priority."

The horse lady also wrote a grumpy letter to the Twonks, saying
....well, you can guess!:T (When she applied for her stables, you can guess who objected! They can't see those either.)

I have a question for everyone that seems to be completely overlooked.

If the price of food goes up (in part because of climatic condition & weather extremes) how do they think that the food grown in gardens will escape when the food grown in fields won't?

The commercial growers are always first to get the new varieties of things which are 'resistant'. It's often them that trial them.

As far as I can see, if the country is flooded, frozen or burnt dry it doesn't much matter whether it's a commercial crop or a hobby one it's equally at risk.
In fact, when it comes to things like hosepipe bans, the commercial side is allowed much more leeway than the individual.
So, while growing your own can be argued for on cost, choice, knowing what has been put on the crop etc. if nature doesn't want us to grow something we can seldom make a great success of it.

My personal feeling ( and I may be completely wrong :rotfl:) is that it will be easier for gardeners to adapt as they are dealing with things on a much smaller scale. For example if the ground is overly flooded then covered raised beds may aid the growing conditions. There would be costs however they would be less than a commercial grower would experience.

If it is dry then bath water/dishes water/water buts can keep a small garden going where as a large commercial supplier would incur great expense.

Time and energy are focussed on a much smaller area in a garden too adding another slight advantage.

I am in no way dismissing the inclement weather and the horrendous impact it can have on growing conditions and the resultant cascading effects. However it seems that extremes are going to be in our future and we need to start thinking of ways to work with or around them.

No one objected to the polytunnel or our last lot of house plans, so no grumbles from me. :D

Our immediate neighbours are absolutely fine too, apart from a propensity to grow big weeds. Indeed, they're scarily quiet. I haven't seen the children this year, yet there are 3 of them and it's been quite nice outside.

Over Christmas & New Year we were hosts to two house cats; hulking great tabbies which normally live on the 8th floor of a seaward facing apartment in Boscombe. Of course they couldn't go out here either..... T'ain't natural.

I have a feeling we may be breeding a generation of 'house children' too. :(

    Enjoy the V&A!!

So I rebooked the failed collection online for tomorrow but didnt get a confirmation. So its on to livechat customer service to be told they will rebook for Wed. Wed!!! I scream in caps, what happened to tomorrow???? Too late for that, I'm advised.

Now I want to sound off but what will that achieve?? So I've agreed to added cost of drop off at a parcel shop just to get it into the system and save me waiting for a non existent pick up and risk customer getting arsey

Which reinforces my decision never to contract MyHerpes ever again!!

Apart from that its all fine here :rotfl::rotfl:

Aww I haven't been to the V&A, and I want to see the costume department, but I have a health appointment on Saturday so I can't come and meet you :( Have a lovely day!

Next week I have two days off and we're delivering a computer to Mark's sister in Hereford and... yes you guessed, looking at a couple of houses while we're there. Not many, and one is an auction property, but it's as well to start looking I suppose. I refuse to fall in love with anything until we have plenty of money in our grubby little mitts! Besides, in all likelihood we need another stepping stone because we can't really afford something with land without investing all our cash and that leaves us no safety net and no income. NOT a state of affairs I would recommend!

Davesanve.. I think 'house kids' have been happening for a while sadly, kids being kept indoors most of the time
