from my point of view, we have got used to the house and land, and ideas have changed, plus i think the more you get used to the house, it sorts of tells you what it needs...so even though i am totally frustrated in the amount that we have done...i am so glad we didnt go gun-ho in doing it up quickly ( which is mainly down to funds:D)
This is true. So true. Even now I am changing my mind over stuff. Paint colour might not be such a big deal, but more expensive stuff is.
I think having to wait rather than having the funds to do it all immeadiately has a frustration, but also a satisfaction.
I still need to make a floor decision, because I want to get the hearths in for heat not because I need a floor decision. (blue Lias maybe?).
We revised dh's one sticking point about the bathroom this month. It's now going to be simpler and easier ( and mainly white). Dh's lovely idea we might use if we ever build our own home, otherwise, we will have a beautiful simply classic bathroom.0 -
i know its totally off topic, but just watching the news about the shooting in america, 26 dead, including 18 little children:o:o:o:o,

Why is it in the winter I am itching to get out and get the garden done but in the spring and summer when the weather is good (sometimes) and there is plenty to do I find reasons to avoid it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
The next couple of days are due to be mild and a bit drizzly so I think I might try and tidy up the paths and move the compost bin. There also seems to be a whole load of rubbish that has been blown into the garden this week so I will get that cleared too.
Mainly I have been walking around it looking and thinkingTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Doesn't matter what one does with a building or land it's all but guaranteed that there will be something you would do differently if you could turn back time or that you will go on to alter at a later date.
My rule of thumb, as I've said before, is, wherever possible, to live somewhere for at least a year before you even start any real planning.
Rozee - As far as woodburners (& many things you'll have to decide on) are concerned, they have to deal with completely different scenarios in every home they're installed so there's really no 'best'. It's what you think will be best for you.
As you know, we took our wooburner out because it just wasn't up to the job in this size of place. We don't even light the open fire now although we could if there was a lengthy power cut.0 -

We're more function over form. It's gonna be a secondary source of heating (after the underfloor from the ?air source heat pump) so it doesn't need to chuck out too much heat, although it will be in a 70m sq ish size room with a lot of windows, so in the Winter, it will probably be needed to boost the temperature in this room. As it's a secondary source of heating, we're thinking it needs to earn its keep from the circa £3000 cost, so we want one with a back boiler to heat some hot water as well. I recall we read that something like 40% (maybe it was 60%? whatever, a large proportion) of your heating bill goes on domestic hot water - and there are five of use, three women.... I never spend less than 10 mins in the shower....
The curse of never having lived in the house comes back to bite us on the bum again,as this is all rather speculative.
What are your thoughts, guys? I value your views.
good grief! what are you looking at in woodstoves ....£3000
