looks as though they are going to try and build more houses in the countryside...

I have visions of huge estates.. being passed, not just the odd house here and there, tastefully done:o

I agree with Mr Boles, but I think he probably has another agenda, and I'm not at all convinced that his idea of "tasteful," or mine, is what will be built by profit-driven developers, unless there are some pretty tough regs drawn up. Will a Tory government do that? Hmmm...

But I don't think the odd house here or there is the way forward. Without being harsh, that's what has been happening in parts of Wales for some time, and I don't think it's done communities any favours. There are dozens of self-build village extensions strung out along the roads, with no clearly defined centre. The houses are generally good quality, well-kept and have much more garden than average, but somehow it still doesn't amount to much. Llanllwni in Ceredigion, is a good example; two miles long and no structure whatever, just a load of houses strung out along the main road. :(

We could easily fit in another few hundred homes in our village without significantly harming views or messing up the more important wildlife habitats, though we'd lose prime crop-growing fields. While we might then get our primary school back, save the shop and have more money to spend on other local services, it would be hard to defend placing, say, 500 people here, where there isn't much employment. :(

So, wherever these developments go, if they're built, it isn't going to be in places like this. There are up and down-sides to that! ;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
It's access to employment that concerns me too dave. Sustainability too.

Sustainable housing near centres of employment and near the other resources they need (including recreational) seem a way to go to me. Of course, choosing a site for new garden cities is tricky.

I think near here, aesthically, would do liottle harm.....the town your wife lived in near me almost joins the one to the east and is on an artery road...just.....that a road is a blocked artery! The a4 cirridor betwen Bristol and bath also seems ...ripe.

I love the idea of an Eco city, where lots of building is underground with light from above, And room for gardens above, everywhere, trees that provide fruit and huge veg beds. and where the roads are safe and air is clear......with great access around the city and good routes out of it for those who cannot work in it.
