    Yes, I think it will.

Agree pellets are easier all around, but they haven't the advantage of being produced locally by folk we know. :(

Masses of storage space for logs, but over 100' from where they'd be needed! :(

Luckily, if we decide to go for underfloor heating, we have the room heights here to do that, and we'll be changing all the doors & most internal doorways anyway. :)

I don' think as they stand wood pellets are green. So agree with you there on local sorcing etc. but i think they have increasing potential to be. The system with wood really is a lot more binding.....you have to have big overflow tank as logs are less controlable and of course, you are more restricted to loading it.....a pain if say. Both of you have a bad cold, a night mare if one of you is chronically ill and the other gets flu....if both of you get older you can oay a little chap to come in once a week and load with pellets,(or leas frequently still if you get a bigger hoppa but logs...daily or twice daily? Imo this is more of a restriction than the logs being 0ne hundred feet away.

Some systems do both, they might be worth considering. Because we know we would always want the visual and one room ability of fires/woodburners for us it makes sense to use our logs there and go for a less restrictive pellet system.

Fwiw, the oellet system, becUse of lack of green and local, was the one thing i said i really did not want...yet here we are.

have you got one of those wurly gig gismo's on your chimney pot...may help ?? must agree that the chimney has to warm up to draw.. as you have no doors/windows/paintwork done is it worth trying a bit more of a powerful tester fire to test the draw ?? try a more wider rather than tall narrow fire...

worse senario is that some hunky fireman turn up to entertain you...;) :rotfl:

I have given up on the garden this year, apart from tidying it for winter and have instead turned my thoughts to decorating the house which is going well.

Dave - I too have reservations on the wood pellet front - Not a green source as far as I'm aware & also the price is set to roar as they become trendy - I feel. I have a lot of sceptism on the whole green front - even though we do eco design - alot of eco stuff is unfortunately eco bling - people making statements that they want others to see. A wood burner is as good as it gets green wise - I think & is a handy tool to use up waste & spent fence posts - our own trees that have died etc. I don't want to have to buy fuel as such - but there again I'm lucky having a wood source.

We are swivvering on heating - but coz of costs will go low & add - I still feel I need a Rayburn in the kitchen & for heating/water, but would be an old un re done if I can get one. Still swivvering over micro-hydro for underfloor heating - which is a goer, but will have to wait. But that would be freeeeeeeeee to run - freeeeeeee. Although you are supposed to pay (have a license) for 'borrowing' the water. What thieves these people are SEPA. I don't like SEPA in the main.

I'm being bad tonight. Just to take my mind off stuff I've been re-listing stuff on ebay - how wicked am I? Mother not even cold. I feel her looking over my shoulder - she doesn't at all seem to mind. When I had a junk shop she used to love going in on Thursdays while I was off at auction. Even had all her pals drop in & she'd make them coffee.

    Night night all.

Choille, the price of ours is more than covered by the rhi. Much more than. I agree, as i said, atm pellets aren't green ( miles covered, many are shipped from australasia for example) but their are local sources of them, and i think the capacity is there to increase local production.

Our boiler has a few in flows, so we can add other sources of energy ( gshp, ashp, solar thermal for example) and i agree, sometimes the best sorce of hear is a woodbuner in one room heating just the room ypu are in)

Choille, so sorry to hear about your Mum. I'm sure she'd understand you wanting to do something to take your mind off things. Hugs from Liverpool.
