  • My condolences, choille.

When at heart you should be sad,
    Pondering the joys we had,
    Listen and keep very still.
If the lowing from the hill
Or the toiling of a bell
Do not serve to break the spell,
    Listen: you may be allowed
To hear my laughter from a cloud.

Very sad for you, choille, but a relief too, if Mum was like my Dad and had no hope of improvement. We hate to see them go, but the peace they gain is worth the days of our grieving.

Blooming close to zero here this am! Up & out early to check that the chooks we bought recently were OK, having popped them in with the ones we bred yesterday.Wouldn't say they like each other, but there's no serious argy-bargy. :)

Not around much because we have visitors, but we'll still get out to the Open Day at the stove centre in Okehampton. Need to give serious thought to how we'll heat this place in the future. :o

Us too dave. Your post inspired me to go and check the draw on the new chimney. Not good. :(. No windows/doors in that room yet, so maybe that will help.

    Button, please. :)

Can you narrow the flue, lir? I think the trick with chimneys is to get the size right, assuming there's enough height. Maybe a bit of trial & error, or a lining?

I'm no expert. We never got the chimney right in our first house.:o

Doors/windows could well make a difference, Lir. When we get a downdraft in our woodburner, which usually draws well, one solution is to open a door.

Maybe foolish but just done a bit of gentle gardening. In recognition that there's a bit too much for me to do atm pre winter getting a bit of help in for a few weeks. So just like if you get in a cleaner, you start to tidy up yourself before she comes :D. Feet are thawing out now.

Off the tablets last night that were sending me slightly more loopy than normal and back into a proper bed. Slept worse than in the chair :rotfl::rotfl:

My Mother - who has been ill for years passed away peacefully early this morning. So that's been a bit of a shock, but in many ways a blessing.

Choille, my heartfelt sympathy and hugs.
