Tetanus rules have changes, which makes me uneasy. I was of the first five then every ten years generation, then, went back for number six they said' we don't do that anymore'. Before my insurance used to rely on it. Incidentally, vets tell me the same about horses now. They still want yyou to pay for them though....wonder what it does to horse insurance if you dn't have them because your horse is overed for life five times over!?

Current advice (from nhs site - for humans, obviously) says:
A full course of tetanus vaccination consists of five doses of the vaccine. This should be enough to give you long-term protection from tetanus. However, if you’re not sure how many doses you’ve received, you may need a booster dose after an injury that breaks your skin.

If you’ve definitely received five doses of the tetanus vaccine, you are fully vaccinated and don’t need a booster dose.

"Long term" here is a case of how long is a bit of string", isn't it?
As you say, first it changed from 5 years to 10 & now it's if you've had 5 & long term :wall:
Saves the NHS money, I suppose.

As far as horses are concerned I thought it was the first 2 jabs about a month apart, then one a year later & then boosters at 2-5 yearly intervals. Has it changed then, LIR?
I note horses don't seem to become "OK after 5 jabs" but then we pay for their jabs. Oh, Itsme, you cynical soul. ;):rotfl:

    :o:o:o:o ok...will phone doctors this morning...:o:o:o

    I know i am a big wouss...

Last time i had a tetnus was when i was about 7ish.. i was sewing and stuck a needle in the carpet ( using carpet as pin cushion. and it was darning needle) and i forgot and stepped on it:eek:..my mother had to get our next door neighbour from the pub to pull the needle out, and then they took me to hospital... had a tetus in my leg.... i can still feel it now:eek:

It is the doctors that does the tetnus? or hospital?

wrist is aching and sore this morning, with just a little redness around the actual puncture ....

how does a 2 year plus cockeral taste when you cook it? tough? well it will be blooody tough on him...:rotfl:

Dont wait, CTC. Get to docs or A&E straight away. You may need antibiotics as well as tetanus.

FWIW, when I had my 6th tetanus jab (couldnt remember at timer that I'd already had 5) I was told that the 6th jab would give no extra benefit but would cause a reaction.

well, i was being cynical too :D. Last year i had a scare and called vet and said this one hasn't had flu and tet for two years, and they said....once they have had five tetnus they are covered for life.....

So i said,....so i do not need to tetnus any of mine here again?

Well no, they said, we advice vaccs as normal....

    Hmmmmm.

I have no idea what official other advice is now, i do not compete anymore and so as often as not my own horses vaccs are out of date. Incidentally, old girl, according to vets, should be riddled with virus unvaccinated with her cuchings. Not one ever since she stopped having vaccs, (she stopped having vaccs on the basis that something had to kill her sometime' that was well over ten years ago.

Nb, i do not advice my own clients do not vaccinate, in fact, having checked my insurance asks that i do recommend vaccination in writing on my contracts.

I hope you are having your vaccs right this minute and not here to read this.

Please make sure you have your five tet, and get antibiotics or proper medical advice for this.

Small holding, or frankly animal ownership, does carrry health risks. We do not live in hospital cleanliness, but i was my hands after doing chickens, and make sure others do too, and our vaccs are up to date. Well, we both had five.

Maybe she's off getting someone to check her wrist. Definitely the sensible thing to do.
Alternatively she could be plucking the cockerel for the pot ;)

I think that, compared to us, choille has been enjoying more better weather. She could be busy working outside while we've spent far too long trapped indoors by the rain or wind. :(

Hope all the absentees are OK & just too busy.
