Annoyed with my account

I have a bog standard Halifax cardcash account and up until now it was great. They have recently changed the way they work so anything i want to do on my account i have to do over the phone. This may work for some people but NOT me!!

I never signed for a telephone account otherwise i would have opened one!!

I asked them to change my account to the next one up which is no different apart from its a Visa Debit card rather than Visa Electron (dont get me started on that!!) and if i wanted i could have an overdraft which i dont! However they wont let me change to that account, apparently i dont qualify for one! Dont see how as they told me the "requirements" e.g you should have money going in, and I meet them!

I have banked with halifax since i was 4 years old ( I am now 22) and have my daughters account with them too.

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO!!!!????????

  • Any CCJs, defaults, arrears, late payments?

You could try Nationwide if you don't have any of the above... they have no income requirements, but you might only get a cash card instead of the visa debit...
  • nope none of the above!

  • In that case you can take your pick of most banks who will welcome you with open arms!

Halifax are a waste of space I have also banked with them for years must be about 20 now since the age of 5 i think.

I dont have the best credit rating but they are completely unflexible, I have held the cardcash account for 9 years something like that and they won't upgrade me. I haven't had any charges on it or been overdrawn for at least the last 7yrs and every month have £1200 + going in. Everytime you go in the branch they just want to sell you something, that 9 times out of 10 I am not eligible for anyway.Absolute bollox, just wish I had a better credit rating so I could go elsewhere.
  • yummy - you are being credit scored for the upgrade to the current account from the basic account (cardcash). it is not the samer account with different card.

They will look at your existing account conduct. time with them (16 years and above. not younger as this was often parent as trustee) reg credits, any charges. other accounts with them - having savings accounts is good, in your name, not childrens

how long in job, how long in house, if on electoral roll, if there is any credit to assess to merit the account as this basic account does not appear on a credit file. do you have anythign to assess?
  • until giving birth to my daughter i always had wages paid into the account, I now of money going in from tax credits and ex partner, I have not been overdrawn in the past 2 years. no credit cards (ever) no other bank accounts (ever!) dont own a house, i am on electoral roll at my folks (i think!) I have never had anything to give me a good or bad credit rating!

If i move my account can i still keep my daughters there as it is me who signed for it (shes only 10 months)

  • sounds like there isn't anything for them to assess other than this account. This is called catch 22 situation. How are you aupposed to get it in the first place, and then when you have it you tend to get offered more.

do you live with parents where you think you are on the electorol roll?

your daughters account has nothing to do with this account
  • Yeah i am at my folks.

It cant be the address as its new house, they've been in it since built and have a mortgage with Halifax which is nearly paid off (december i think)
