Try it with some cheap cooking chocolate if you are just after a sweet kick rather than a strong chocolate flavour?

I find my OH is better at cutting things out - I am a moron when it comes to cutting a straight line, never mind a circular one! I love what it says on them though. Maybe go for square beer mats with the edges trimmed? That way you could use a guillotine and then just round the edges off?

Ajax (I too want to call you this all of the time) you are doing brilliantly keeping to your budget. ha ha I so should change my avatar (is that what it's called, or is that a picture :o) to ajax

My main thought when it came to budget were - am I or others going to have to spend months, days and hours making things and doing us favours? This is the part I just LOVE!, One of my close friends is getting married this June, and we were discussing invites and I was 'oooo I'll make those' and she was really pleased, she said she had wanted to ask me for ages, but with my wedding she didn't think i'd want to....er no, bring it on!!!!

We wanted a wedding where people just turn up and have fun - very much like yours Jax. I sooo want this to be the case, none of the ooo I need a gift, i need a new dress, I need this that and the other. No you don't, just turn up and we'll all have a right old knees up. My OH and have been together for so long, we are both so excited about sharing it with our friends.

The second thoughts were 'Does it truly reflect what we want?' If we were making a 'it will do' choice then I wasn't happy with it. In my mind we have waited almost 8 years to have a wedding which reflects us. I didn't see the point in compromising now! 100% agree. Every aspect of our wedding from having on the beach, not having flowers, having lunch with my friends before the wedding, the drinks reception, a party at night etc is totally us. My MOH said when we announced our plans, she was really worried we'd go for the big posh wedding because we'd 'finally' got round to getting married, and she that that just wasn't me and my OH. I love spoiling my friends, I love going out for meals and drinks with them, I just love their company and am so grateful to each and every one of them, our day reflects that (I hope) and the theme etc makes me smiles every single time I think about it (which is a lot :rotfl:)

I don't actually know how much our wedding is costing (I bet that is freaking allyou spread sheeters out!) I have a rough idea that it's about £7000, including everything from 2 bands, flowers, food, clothes and the actual ceremony, for 64 during the day and 100 at night. I'm glad we didn't restrict ourselves, but we trusted that we would know what was acceptable and what we wont have, it meant we can have the wedding we have talked about for a long time now!
My Oh was like that, we can afford a much larger wedding, however when we sat down and worked it out, the wedding we wanted was the one which we have booked and the one which comes in at (around :o) 3k. We have the money to invite more than 60 to the evening, but don't want to. We could have transport from the day tot he night do, but seriously it's a 5 min walk along a fantastic beach - we'd rather do that. We are very much like you, we have been together for so long, we want the wedding we want and luckily it's all coming to plan.... so far....

See, in a lot of respects the budget is a bit irrelevant. You could spend £1000 or £200000 but as long as it feels right then it doesn't matter.

Yes - 24th March. Sodding leap year so it is actually 4 weeks tomorrow. Gosh, I feel a little faint now.

I'm not sure what I'm doing on this thread as I have no intention of getting married again but I love the enthu-horsiasm and the personalization here.

Just before I started planning my wedding we went to a friend's wedding -it had cost a fortune horse drawn carriage, harpist, toastmaster expensive venue etc etc. Half the guests were business "friends" of the FOB and the bride and groom didn't know them -the FOBs speech was full of business references and in all honesty the only table who were having a good time were the groom's TA mates table. The wedding was just so not the B&G who were lovely but very down to earth people (oh yes the MOG came over and scolded the bride when she pinched a drag of a cigerette off a guest at the reception too) It all went flat simply because it didn't reflect the bride and groom's personality at all and felt more like a business function (which in a way I guess it was).

It was a reality check for me -I realized just how important it was to have the wedding that I wanted and not what other people wanted me to have -and that budget wasn't as important as getting the details right and making it about the celebration and having the people we wanted celebrating with us and them been comfortable. I had a registry office wedding ,dress, nice cars and a sit-down for fifty -with no evening do and everyone loved it. I also got to get to talk to everyone -harder with bigger numbers -it suited me and my then husband although I know it wouldn't have suited everyone.

(My brother also had a registry office wedding-followed by a bangers and mash reception in a pub -guess we don't do big and fancy weddings as a family ;) )

I love the sea and beach theme (I'd hide his wetsuit just in case though ;) ) and it's clear it's a reflection of you both and that makes it special in the very best way.

I think an awful lot of brides on here feel very much the same. We all want OUR wedding, not a wedding in a hotel that is the same as the one a week before.

So many people on here have fantastic ideas and for me personalisation is hugely important. Take the wine charms, yes I could have bought them on ebay, but I wanted to make them with charms individual to them - my family have Irish Shamrocks, OH's have Welsh Dragons etc... I'm like that for all things though, I'm currently making all my friends Easter Hampers and have bunny poop all over the place :rotfl: I so need to go back to work.....

Think I need practice on cutting a circle, who knew scissors were so hard to use :rotfl:

i thought about crispy cakes. This was my first attempt.
    a) cutting a perfect circle
    - the easiest method would be to use a template - find anything circular you have at home. Place whatever it is onto your beer mat and then using a craft knife go around the edge of this. (As if you were drawing around it).
    - alternatively you could make a little jig up - get a pin some string and a craft knife, tie the string to the knife and pin, then stick the pin into the back of your beermat. Then keeping the string pulled as tight as you can cut a circle.
    b) I love your crispy cakes - I think they look amazing!

Absolutely and for those of us who are doing a £3k wedding, it does feel right. No corners are being cut, no settling for anything but the best... well certainly for us anyway. It is exactly the wedding we want. (Although if I did have unlimited money I would buy a posh choccywoccydodah cake just to show off really). I think the reason for Ajax starting this thread was the incredulous comments that it couldn't possibly be done for so little, or that we'd be seriously compromising on our 'dreams'. I think we're showing that isn't the case :)

ha ha well everyone has been really good keeping me in fantastic spirits.

They are getting a bag of bunny poop (a bit like this http://www.squidoo.com/easter-bunny-poop but mine is with chocolate covered raisins), a jar of cookie mix (like this http://www.katiebakes.co.uk/) and some sunflower seeds on which I've made saying Friends are the Sunshine of Life.

Remember I've been of work for yonks and had too much time on my hands :rotfl:

They sound good. You should print cookie instructions, including 'bake and bring round to Ajax's house to enjoy'....
