    Hi Everyone,
This is such a great thread :)

I'm currently arranging my post-wedding party in November 2013. The costs for the wedding and honeymoon are taken care of - we had already booked a holiday to Las Vegas for later this year, but when we started talking about weddings we decided to take advantage of the timing of our holiday and get married while we are out there.

We will be having a big party for family and friends a couple of weeks after returning to the UK. But as we're saving for a mortgage deposit, we aren't able to spend too much money on the party - so this thread really is invaluable! Thanks to everyone who has shared great ideas.

One tip I have already (idea pinched from a friend's wedding) is to set up an account on an app like WeddingParty and give the details to all your guests. They can upload the photos they take on their phones to the app so they can be shared with other wedding guests. My friend put cards on every table with the details of how to download the app and at least one person from every table used it - it was like the modern equivalent of having disposable cameras on the tables.

My friends got married on a budget of £2.5k and it's the best wedding I've ever been to. Anythings possible - good luck! x

    GRAND TOTAL................................... 3495.99

Sorry it's taken me so long to get the final figures up here.

So we were £495.99 over budget. You might remember OH and I set 3k as a budget not knowing what we wanted etc, he then wanted to increase it, but me being me bet him that I could do it without sacrificing anything we wanted. I guess it was easier for us as we could have gone over if we wanted but I really tried not too.

Things which increased the total cost were OH's suit (he decided against a wetsuit) and photographs as his friend gave us a really good deal of almost 10 hours of photos for £200.00.

OH decided the week before we should have some centrepieces at the venue we got married (we were only there 2 hours), I really didn't want them but we paid £15.00 for them and I wish we hadn't. They were tall martini glasses full of beads and flowers and had nothing to do with us whatsoever. Yes the venue looked nice, but we'd spent a year making the wedding 'ours' and then a week before plonked these glasses on the table........ The one things I'd change.......

Anyway I hope you've found this thread interesting, i'll update the first post giving links to the photos and things as I think that helps people with ideas etc.

    But happy planning/budgeting everyone
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • Well done, the thread has been an inspiration with some great ideas. Thank you.

    Hi everybody!

We are getting married 9 months tomorrow and definately want to spend £3k or less!
We are ducking out on fancy transport, fancy hotel reception and fancy food opting for a more laid back BBQ / folk festival idea so if it rains i will be devistated!

We are working on an excevl sheet which has everything costed out and will post it when it is done!

Aw we really wanted a BBQ too, only our venue didn't allow for it. Jealous!

  • We have just booked our venue for Oct 14 and this has inspired me to think before I hand over any money!!
