  • Crocswearer - an alternative.

o2 currently offering 12m sim only with 600m, unl texts and 500mb data for £21.50pm.

o2 are offering £5 off for 6 months.

Topcashback offering £101 on this tariff

    Monthly cost is therefore £10.58pm.

    ++ £25 shop voucher.

You may find coverage a little scatty with 3.

Tesco (o2) is a solid old timer.

I used 3 up to 2 years ago, with no coverage problems.

    Using ukmobilecoverage.co.uk, 3 has 93% on 3G, whereas O2 has 80% on 3G.
  • These stats often ignore the fact that phones drop in out of 3g coverage. When they do they need a better 2g signal being transmitted.

Up to you really - somewhat personal choice.
  • Ok, after reading a Which? report that O2 and Tesco Mobile have best coverage and customer service, I've had another look.

    O2 iPhone 4 contract = £37/month with necessary minutes. £888 over 2 years.
Tesco iPhone 4 contract = £35 month with necessary minutes. £840 over 2 years (currently sold out).

    Phone upfront + O2 sim only, £400 + £21.50/month £5 discount for first 6 months) , £101 Topcashback = £785 as long as it tracks on TCB.

    Phone upfront + Tesco iPhone sim only, £429 (Apple) + £12.50/month = £729 over 2 years.

I think I've made my mind up, but am nervous of spending £429 up front. Please encourage me, especially Tesco mobile users!

And thanks again to moneycheck.

Yes, you always get a UK call centre and much better customer service. Roaming is a little cheaper.

Does it matter if a consumer takes out a business contract? Do you need to provide any extra details etc?
  • Crocswearer - are you at all interested in taking out an e2save cashback deal? If you can keep the discipline they work out very well.

If so, I'd suggest having a look at Samsung E2121B deal. Its a 24m deal with 16m at £1.99pm via redemption. I cant paste link so if look carefully for it. Maybe post link and I can confirm.

This deal with out at £12.41 pm after £30 from Topcashback.

The benefit of this deal is that it is with o2 direct (v good customer service and coverage).

    Overall costs -

    £429 for phone
    £298 for tariff
    £726 total over 24 months.
  • Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd rather pay £729 over 24 months for the iPhone.

I have been using an iPod Touch for about 3 years and really like the UI.
  • Some clarification might be helpful.

My suggestion re e2save route would still get you iphone 4 and requisite number of mins, data etc but would have the added benefit of being with o2 direct and the cost would be stagnate at £726.

Via the tesco route, the assumption is that it would be £729 as long as the £12.50pm tariff is still offered in 12months time.

    Ah I see!

I'd rather go for the Tesco option, which means that (a) I'm not relying on any cashback for the deal to be competitive and (b) I'm not tied in to a 2 year contract.

    Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.
  • Giffgaff £10 goodybag and a micro SIM cutter here :-)
