Co-op refusing to accept NCD

If I understand this correctly......
Real ncb is only built up by you having your own policy, you start at zero and get one year for each claim free year you have the policy. It can be transferred to other insurance companies if you move to them.
Some companies have a marketing ploy of "named driver ncb". This isn't real ncb and can only be used with the same company and can't be transferred to any other company.
If your mum had a co-op policy with you as a named driver then her premium would benifit from her 9 years NCB and you should acrew one year of "named driver ncb"
When you took out your own policy with the co-op then your mothers 9+ years counts for nothing but you should get the benifit of the one years "named driver ncb" as long as you stay with the co-op. At the end of this policy you will have one year real ncb which will be recognised by any company.0 -
The first girl I spoke to had never heard of anything like this so i asked to speak to a manager. Got put through to a team leader who just repeated 'you was not insured by co-op last year' and said if i have an issue with it email her.
My premiums gone from £40 odd a month to £130. but with all the cancellation fees and a day off work for an engineer to remove the tracker im out off pocket but also cant spare £130 a month.
If it says co-op in big letters on all the letters, your going to belive its co-op insurance!!!0 -
£40 to £130 a month looks like your mothers max ncb was wrongly applied to your policy0

£40 to £130 a month looks like your mothers max ncb was wrongly applied to your policy
I assumed that may have happened.
I'm abit stuck now, I've had 3 months of paying £40 odd a month, which is alot better than many people my age, and only have 9 months left on the policy. Just got a quote off their site using the details they're currently charging me for (new co-op customer) and that was £133 p/m plus deposit.
Think i'm pretty much stuck with them for 9 more months. I cant afford the fee's to leave plus deposit for some where else.
Like many people, i work full time and can barely cover the cost of living as it is. I'm going to have to get a part time job on top of my 50 hr weeks simply to cover this extra £80/£90 a month.
I really hope they're not doing this with all previous customers, giving quotes as a customer to get them to sign up for low premiums, then 3 months in turn round and say turns out you were never with us before.
I definatly will never use them again!0 -
as a new customer it would cost you £133 x 12 = £1600
as an existing customer it's cost you (£130 x 9) + (3 x £40) = 1290 so it does look like they have given you the benefit of the 20% one years "named driver" ncb you appear to be entitled to.
doesn't look like you've done too badly0 -
Their actions actually make no sense to me.
To check I have this correct...
- You have been insured on your mums policy for 1 year and this appeared to be a Coop policy.
- You insured with Coop this year believing you could use the 1 year named driver no claims discount.
- They asked for the policy number of the old coop policy when you accepted the policy in your name
- Now they state you were not with Coop last year and instead went through a broker.
- They have removed the 1 year and charged an additional amount each month.
Confusing much eh! Since you gave the Coop policy number when you took out the policy I'd say your entitlement to NCD should have been checked at the point of sale. Therefore I would contact them back and ask to make a complaint. They should be able to keep the policy as it is until investigations have taken place...if it's correct fair enough but the whole broker thing makes no sense to me...it's surely still the Coop underwriting the policy if Coop is written on your docs. Likewise they should reject the NCD at the point of sale instead of landing you with this 3 months in!0 -
As you are short of time here, I would contact the FOS by phone tommorrow, sometimes they will phone on your behalf, with better results.
It does sound like you should have the ncd, and the co-op are messing you about.0
