Another free site for anyone who has relative who did not get "on their bikes" mine moved constantly, is this, where the LDS church Birth Marriage and Death records are kept within places, so you can select a county, and then a town or village and just look at the records for the parish. DG

On the 1871 census Joseph & Ann are living at Prees - with 3 children; Leah age 2, and John and Thomas, both age 0
I found them on the LDS site.
1881 census shows Joseph, Ann, Leah age 12, John and Thomas age 10
If this link works it is the index page to the census on the LDS site

I have found the family in census 1871, 81,91 and 1901, I am certain it is the right family as Leah went to Marry Joseph Smith ?? What a name to look up hey but they are defo my Grans parents. On the cesus Thomas is the Grandson so they must have another child born old enough to have a child who wasnt on the census. Think it must have been a son as the baby's name is Chidlow too. Am pretty certain Ann's maiden name is Palin too, I added that to my tree a couple of days ago. Yes they were pretty old to be starting a new family but I think that they had children until they were alot older ( no birth control etc)

This has got me thinking now could it be that joseph married twice first wife being Ann Palin in 1863 at the age of 29 then in 1881 at the age of 47 married Ann Ashley ?? something like that,

The Rootschat website is fantastic! I joined it today and asked a question Catholic registration because I've hit a brick wall with one of my ancestors. Someone asked me what details I had, and have already come back with some positive leads, so it's definitely worth joining.

    Hi :)

Since the thread has now dropped down the board I'm going to move you across to our Marriages board where there are a number of threads that may help you.

    Good luck :)

A daughter's illegitimate child would also have the Chidlow surname.

I have found my 2nd great grandfather his name was Joseph Chidlow and was born in market drayton in 1834 but I cannot find out who he married, it was Ann on the census form of 1891 and they lived in Prees I think it says back lane.

It looks like Wem Lane to me.

Definitely worth going on rootschat. I joined yesterday, posted a question and the help I've got back is phenomenal. The people seem to be as lovely and helpful as the people on the MSE forums. I've found that a great great grandmother had a different surname from the one I thought because she had a stepfather (I'd put his surname down as hers) and that's led me on to find out that her own mother also got remarried to a younger man after her first husband died.
