End of 02 contract looming - cheapest way to continue to use phone

Hi - sorry as not very technically minded but my i-phone 3G contract is up in april after 24 months.

I take it I then own the phone - if so what is the cheapest way of continuing to use the phone and keep the same number if possibe?

At present I have unlimited texts, 1200 mins calls, unlimited wifi etc.

I tend to text mainly only ringing about 100mins per month but I do access the websites on the phone.

Any advice would be gratefully received. My monthly bill is £42

    Hi,
I went on a sim only monthly contract with O2 when my Iphone contract ran out.
Am currently paying about £16.50 for unlimited texts, 100 mins and some data (can't remember how much exactly!)

You can tailor the plan according to your needs/price.

Alternatively you could possibly go with another provider or use it as PAYG.

Giffgaff seem to be highly recommend for cheapest payg iphone tariffs.

Seems to cheap to be true but heavily promoted on MSE so must be good. They run off o2 network aswell so no need to unlock your phone.

Appologies Bongedone beat me to it.

Contact O2 first. I've just said I would leave & they beat the 12 month Tesco deal for a new 4S. Previously I went on their £20 a month iPhone deal & I know they do one for £10 - can't remember what you get though.

Your contract does not end after 24m, it is your minimum term that ends. If you do nothing it will continue on exactly the same terms as before.
If you want to keep the handset then switch to a SIM only contract or PAYG, porting the number over if necessary.

Thanks that is me just thinking they will stop taking £42 and the phone is mine.

I take it I need to give notice to 02 then and the quicker the better if I dont want anymore payments after april taken

  • I just carried on with my 02 contract, but didn't get an upgrade on my phone and they reduced the monthly price from £46 to £8.50 for exactly the same texts/calls/data.

The phone was yours from the very start.

If so, you have to give notice not later than 30 days before the min term ends. Either ask for PAC to port the number or ask to switch you to PAYG.

The phone was yours from day one of the contract, but they will not stop taking £42!
If you give notice more than 30 days before the end of your minimum then you will have to pay an ETC.
You need to get your PAC if you want to take your number with you, just cancelling will result in loss of the number.
