So if I go out and buy an old 911 for £2000 I've somehow "made it"?

Or for those who are only slightly trying to make up for deficiency in other departments. Your a troll.

    Can't argue with that.

I guess thats measured to your high standards.....you really are ticking all those boxes for NPD!

Please do enlighten us what do you have to do, to have "made it" in your world.

    Also what do you drive?

For most people, Spending too much is just a waste of money. "Performance" tyres tend to be softer and wear faster, and most people don't drive to a tyres limits anyway.

Avoid retreads at all costs, avoid the very cheapest tyres, but brands such as Nexen, Barum etc make pefectly good tyres which will save the average motorist money.

Do a bit of research on the internet, shop around for the best prices and you can be reasonab ly confident you've got a good deal.

I'd advise going for a decent brand, at least mid-range. I've had some bad experiences with budget tyres in the past, many of them look the part and they perform okay in the dry but they can be simply awful in the wet. Unless you're an ultra slow driver I wouldn't choose budgets.

Is it worth paying for tyres like continental or should we go for cheap ones?

Its for a Nissan Note which has come back from an interim service today with a list of things wrong as long as your arm, except of course for the things that we asked to be checked which need to be checked separately now at a cost for 'further investigation'

So the tyres are worn which we knew and needed to change, they have given us the option of continental for about 90 each (this is for all 4) or Nexion (?) at 55 each.

    This is a Nissan dealer
tires you get what you pay for, buget tires tend to be poor in the wet
  • Use Mytyres.net - they have tyre reviews... no jargon, no false advertising, no bull. I DONT go for brands... why should I show such loyalty... how is their equipement better than other countries. No, I go for Nankang NS2's which lasted ages, 160mph tyre and £44 per corner yet the others were quoting me £140+ per corner for rip off brands. Do your research and buy any brand fit fo purpose after real world testing.

I found a decent price on Goodyear EfficientGrip from Kwik Fit
Black circles, mytyres etc were pretty much the same @~£77 each

Anyway, I wandered into Kwik Fit but the best they could do them for was £95 ea
on the advice of the guy in there, I went away [to the car park] and ordered them online and booked the first available appointment [3 days later] at the reduced price.
Back into Kwik Fit and the guy sees the appointment on his system and moves it to do it straight away

so around 40% less for simply booking the sale from the car park rather than the office

Reminds me of a similar experience at PC World, but we actually did it at the customer services desk, and reserved online to collect. He then went and got them for me.
Makes you wonder how much mark up other people pay.
