What happens if you're born on the 29th Feb do you celebrate on the 28th the other 3 years? x
  • That's what we do with our son, but we do keep to the 28th even in a leap year.

That was why we were going to originally have the 1st March, so that even in a leap year he'd have his birthday at the same time, but we do keep his birthday to the 28th even on a leapyear.

I had read on another website that he would be able to drive and drink both on the 28th Feb, but I'd never heard that before and that in the USA it was the 1st March, so no idea if that's true.
Erm no, there are no special rules letting anyone drink & drive just because they were born on the 29th Feb:rotfl: Hope you get a nice card for him, I always thought it would be cool to have a birthday on the 29th.
    Booo!!!
  • Thanks, I did wonder, I suppose then he has to wait until the 1st March when he's 17 for driving, 18 for drinking rather than the 28th. It was just something I saw somebody had said on mumsnet when I was looking up leapyear birthdays.

I once knew a family with two children born 4 years apart - both on 29th Feb. what would the chances be for that?

Sorry, I was making a rubbish joke re drink driving which is obviously always wrong & not what you were suggesting he would ever dream of doing.

I was due with my eldest early March, with a due date that had been changed from late Feb 12 years ago. I spent the time worrying that the baby would be born on the 14th and whittling about affording flowers to send on babys 18th should it be a girl, and when that passed without problems, I then started worrying about one born on Feb 29th cos my husband had told me if child was he'd only be buying the baby a present every 4 years cos the 3 other years 'wouldn't be his birthday' and I believed him.:rotfl::rotfl: I can only plead that I must have been insane at 9 months pregnant.:o:D

I always thought if I had had a baby feb 29th we'd have celebrated march 1st due to it being the date after feb 28th. I think ds would have liked a birthday that was sometimes in feb and sometimes in March being a contrary so and so.:D

    Glad you found a card.:)
  • To Violetta, sorry I missed what you meant about drink driving, I can see what you mean now though (don't know where the faces are or I would put a smiley one here).

To Spendless, I think that's why my son likes having a birthday on the 29th it makes him a bit different and he's quite happy to tell people he's almost 4.
  • Hi,
My daughter`s first baby (and my first grand baby!:j:D:T:heartsmil) is due on March 21st, and she keeps saying that she would love it to come on February 29th.

She said she would use February 28th as the birthday date for the other 3 years.

Interesting topic of conversation about drinking and driving ages even if it`s only 1 day out.

And I really don`t mind when the baby comes as long as everything`s ok. Had a few false alarms/early labour that was thankfully stopped/decreased movements for the past month - which is still going on.

BUT...my daughter is unsure of her lmp dates...soooooooooo it IS possible that we could get a leap year baby.....!

    M
    xx
  • Congratulations and I hope all goes well whenever baby arrives. I still have to say I'd have preferred any other day than the 29th (he was due the 12th March) just to have the date on the calendar, especially for his first birthday, but at least he likes it.
I did look for more information about the drinking and driving ages but couldn't find anything so presume it is March 1st.
