I have an excellent child's bed I want to donate but the BHF shop could only do van collections with ludicrous 'anytime' time slots, something like 7am to 2pm or 2pm to 8pm. We both work and can't justify taking a days holiday just for this! They were totally uninterested in attempting to work out a narrower time so we could try make arrangement for someone to be at home.
It just appeared devoid of any organisational ability. Bed will go on Freecycle instead, probably to someone moneysaving rather than charity which is a bit of a shame.0 -
Have to say I've never understood the pricing policies of some charity shops. I occasionally nip in some in a reasonably well to do town, strangely the same overpriced items are still there month after month. £5 for a DVD thats £2.99 new on Play? Surely if you price to sell you will raise more than having a shop full of overpriced stock going nowhere?
Another town near to me isn't quite as posh, it has quite a few charity shops and week in week out they are full of people buying their items because they are priced realistically. One local one actually sells everything at £1 and it genuinely is heaving with people every weekend.0 -
I arranged collection of stereo system & TV unit using their web site. It was really straightforward & easy procedure. I included my phone number & they rang me on the next working day to confirm collection. They arrived on the arranged date. I'm just very pleased that some really good items will be sold to help a very worthwhile charity. So I have a double bed I want to donate. BHF is opening a new furniture shop and are looking for stock. But to arrange collection I have to phone an 0844 number! Phone the current store and I get a short that's the only number. And head office gives the same answer but verges on the snotty.0 -

Surely when you donate goods to a charity shop, you want them to get the most they can from selling them?
A charity shop is a business making money for a charity. It's not there to provide bargains for you or others.
They also have over heads which they have to pay for , these are unavoidableVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
Explain the difference? The shop would benefit from £1, plus books to sell, plus the return of the original book to resell at a later date. As it was, they lost my pound.

"do you have enough, are you sure you dont want to clear out all of our good stock" I said " sorry I thought this was a shop and these things were here to buy" to which her reply was "yes but every time you come in here you clear out all of our good stock"
I'd been tempted to say "Thank you for complimenting me on my judgement of quality merchandise. Thank you also for the advice (which I will pass on to all my friends) that most of your stock is rubbish".If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

One of the shops in Cardiff started a new scheme whereby they would display their best stock in the window, but you had to put your name on a waiting list if you were interested in buying any of it and wait until the end of the month to see whether you got a phonecall. It was really frustrating one December when I was looking for a wrap to go with my party dress and saw the perfect one there... but couldn't buy it at any price until after the party

OP, simple solution is to pop into your local charity shop who will happily arrange a collection date with you. Or you could always put it on Freecycle and donate it to a needy someone more local to yourself who would benefit from it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
