If you do request it or request PAC you have to pay at least for the next 30 days even if you port the number out earlier.

IMHO you are likely to get the best offer if you get the PAC and they call you to stop from leaving.

Going back to the OP situation, I have never heard of people being immediately hit with a charge for asking for their PAC code during the final 30 days. If that was the case, then why recommend asking for it as a bargaining tool as you say above.

I do agree that, when you use it and you get a final bill, there will be a balance of line rental & calls to pay, but I repeat again, I have never heard of anyone being hit with an on-the-spot charge for requesting a PAC code in their final 30 days.

Well, I have to agree. I don't recollect hearing about this either. However, this is just an advance payment, not a "charge for asking for PAC".

    E.g.
-min term ends on the 10th,
-billing month ends on the 20th (already paid in advance),
-you request the PAC on the 1st and they ask you to pay in advance for 21st-31st.

That said, I have never heard about networks charging for PAC either, hence guessing.
If that was the case, then why recommend asking for it as a bargaining tool as you say above.
Even if you have to pay some extra in advance, I don't see why this cannot be used as a bargaining tool.

Could be, but I bet they double-charge unless OP gets it removed.

Just happened to us! Min term with T mobile expires on 9th June. Rang today to give 30 days notice and request PAC. Was informed that we have to pay the monthly contract fee (£30) to cover us until 9th June, PLUS £25 for a PAC! Is this correct / legal?

They tried this on with me, I got my PAC 30 days before the end as well.

Check the account online, it will probably show up as an early termination charge. If it does, ring them up and tell them to remove the charge, how can they charge you early termination before you've even ported your number?

Check your final bill when it comes to be sure that they have removed it, they didn't on mine which meant I had to ring them again to get my money back.

Hi, in my experience this 'early termination fee' is taken into account when they produce the final bill.

Even where this has been charged the total amount I have been charged has been correct.

As grumbler said before the telecoms compnaies have the right to charge you an admin for for a PAC code.

You cannot give notice and ask for a PAC, the line needs to be active to port, so cannot have a cancel notice on it, asking for the PAC overrides the cancellation request.

You will have to pay up for any minimum term due, either as the monthly fee or use the PAC and pay it as an early termination fee. Also you may have to pay 30 days rental costs on top leiu of notice when you use the PAC Code depending where it falls in your billing cycle.

It sounds more like they just want you to pay the month rental due for June early to be honest..

Yes that's what they said. If we were to give 30 days notice we could not then request a PAC. By requesting a PAC now we would pay a month's line rental plus £25 for the PAC. If we asked for a PAC at the end of the minimum term then we would pay another month's line rental and the PAC fee.

Although they want the PAC fee too...

All fees have to be clearly stated somewhere.
Ask them to point you to the document / webpage where the 'PAC fee' is listed.
