Apologies to the honest salespeople with integrity out there (all 3 of them), but threads like this really makes me detest all salesmen and their tactics. Whether it's knocking on your door tricking you into a new phone / utilities contract or verbally saying "yes" to everything on the phone when buying insurance, only to part you with cash then send a printed "computer says no", they all make my blood boil.

Can anyone offer any good news stories about wonderful honest service they've received from a salesperson - particularly in the second hand car market?

There are some sales people out there who do not behave in this way. Those who realise that if you treat customers with respect and actually provide a great experience, they tend to keep coming back. They will also give you a lot of referral business as well. I sell cars for a large main dealer group (*puts on tin hat) and I have seen a major shift in the emphasis the manufacturer is putting on getting it right for the customer. Sadly, as the OP has found out, there are still plenty of rogues to go around. Such a shame because it does not need to be that way!

Good luck getting it sorted OP

Thanks for this. The dealership have been so apologetic and seem genuinely concerned that this has happened but I understand that without any proof its very difficult for them to honour the deal I was initially told I would be getting. Their attitude towards the situation makes me wonder whether the salesman involved had a bit of a track record, just something I picked up in the manager's voice.

I will probably take up the offer of £250 for the RAC and servicing because with a new baby on the way its a bill I don't need to worry about for another 2 years and tbh I would have taken this out anyway when I bought the car if I hadn't been told it was included!

Did you ask the manager if anyone else had said the same thing? If he sounded funny it could be because he's had 100 people in this month saying the same thing and is worried about how much liability he has.

Of course, he could lie and say no-one has said the same thing but a quick search online should show you if it is true or not.

OP, Glyn Hopkin did the exact same thing to my OH a few years ago.

He bought a used Punto which they messed him about with, as an apology and to stop him pulling out of the deal the salesman offered him 1 year free service and MOT. Low and behold, one year later there's no trace of the free service and the salesman has left. I'll never step foot in that place again.

Google Newham Recorder E-edition (there'll be others for your local area) and then click through to their e-edition of the paper (you don't have to sign up) and then on the left, the archive and you can choose dates of the newspaper for last year. In the classifieds at the back are various adverts from Glyn Hopkin.

It doesn't look as if they were offering the free servicing for the Nissan Jukes until later in the year. In Feb it was still £250 for 3 years servicing. But check each edition for Jan/Feb/Mar and you may find the offer in an advert - worth a shot.
