Help! I was told my car came with 3 yrs free servicing, now they say it didn't!

Hi all,
I bought my new Nissan Juke from Glyn Hopkin in Feb 2011. At the time I was told it came with complimentary 3 yrs servicing and RAC. I called to book my first service and was told they had no record of free servicing with my car. I contacted the sales department and have been told the same thing. I was definately told my car came with this - my husband was with me and we both discussed it in the showroom and decided to take the car because of the deal we were offered by the salesman. They have said that the deal at the time was 3 yrs servicing and RAC for £250, we were most definately not offered this, we were told it would be included with the car.
I can't believe this has happened, I haven't budgeted for a service and don't know what to do next.
Please can anyone offer any advice?

Was it advertised in a newspaper as that ? Could you get a copy.
Go into your local trading standards office, they may not be able to help if it's your word against the garage, but if they've told other customers the same thing you may be able to get a joint action of some sort.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Got a copy of the advert? What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Unfortunately I don't know if it was advertised in the paper or not. It was just what was offered by the salesman on the day I went to the dealership. We decided it was too good an offer to miss and were sold on it there and then. If it hadn't been such a good deal we would more than likely shopped around a bit and looked at other cars that had good offers on them.
The manager of the dealership has been very nice and apologetic about it but he says he doesn't know what to do because it wasn't a deal Nissan were offering and the salesman no longer works there.
I'm angry that there was a £250 offer on at the time which they've said I turned down because this was certainly never mentioned, if I hadn't been offered the free servicing and after shopping around decided I still wanted the car I would have taken this!
So angry!0 -
Usually when you get such offers, when you pick up the car you get some paperwork showing this. For example, I get free AA cover with a service at Ford and when I collect my car there's a leaflet with a print out of the policy details.0

Sadly I didn't, I had to wait a month before my car was ready and by then I was so bogged down with other paperwork etc when I went to pick it up I'd forgotten all about and just presumed it would be logged on the system. If only I'd remembered to ask
I guess being my word against a salesman who's not even there anymore could mean I'm going to lose out big time.0 -

I'll quote myself and edit - get a copy of the advert.
Chances are it was in the paper around the time you bought it or at least a week prior. You could ask for a back issue. they might have them and it'll only cost a couple of quid.
Worth getting armed (if possible) before approaching Nissan about the dealer otherwise it is your word against theirs (they offered it, you said no etc)

By all means try to fight your corner, but a service doesn't cost the earth.... These deals are only there to keep customers coming back, so they can find things wrong with your car and make more money (tyre's brakes etc).
Servicing really shouldn't cost more than £50-£80 + labour. As long as genuine parts are used as per service schedule and you take it to a VAT registered garage, the warranty should not be affected.
Salesmen can't be trusted, most would screw their own grandmother to meet targets.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If there's nothing in the paperwork, then unfortunately you are almost certainly going to lose out.
It would be your word against a salesman who no longer works there. It would be a very generous dealer who honoured something like that without any evidence to support it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. The dealer is being foolish. As a goodwill gesture they could offer the first one free - it is after all only an oil change which will cost them a few quid they can get back on some other poor soul's invoice.0
