At my local barber:
Over 12 - £5.50
Under 12 - £4.50
So £10 to get both my boys done and I give a £2 tip. They do a good job as well, I tried elsewhere and wasn't happy with the cut.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Tipping is for great or exceptional service, not because they've just done their standard job.
I agree with this. I have a friend who tips EVERYTHING, even a taxi ride that last 2 mins.
I don't tip my hairdresser normally, however if she's done a fab up-do or suchlike I would then, but not for a standard cut and colour. I give a bottle of wine at Christmas.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
If I take grandsons I'd probably tip £1 for each . For my hair I'd usually tip 10% and think it's normal to do that . I prob. go every 8 weeks for cut + blow dry so £2 is what I'd leave .0

I don't tip anybody-hairdressers postmen taxi drivers binmen waitress pizza delivery, its their choice to have that particular job would you tip a firefighter or g.p or soldier?Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

I don't tip at the hairdressers. Never have. For the past couple of years I have been going to the same one and she is the owner and isn't cheap. I pay £30+ for a cut and blowdry and £70+ if I have a colour there (I can't afford to do this at the mo so am back to doing my own - I have foils if I have it done at the hairdressers to make it a bit special - can't see the point in getting them to do an all over colour).
I don't get tips at work so why should they? It is crazy that some jobs attract tips while others don't and it isn't about being low or high earning. Lots of low paid people don't get tips. Prices should be whatever they (or their employer) want to get paid for the job. That way, everyone knows where they stand - if everyone just adds a bit on what is the point?'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'0 -
I don't tip but I feel bad for not doing so, as my hairdresser undercharges for the amount of time she spends doing my hair. However I really can't afford to tip at the moment and in fact haven't had my hair cut in a VERY long time because I can't afford to.:j Tehya Baby DD 22/03/2012 :j

I have tipped in the past when it's been more than a cut and they've done a good job but since my current lady has moved her prices have gone up.
Even for 5/10 mins of thinning its £7.
To many having your hair done is a luxury and not everyone can afford to tip so whoever it was that said those that don't tip hang your heads in shame please remember that there are many others who are struggling too.0 -
Hi
I pay £7.95 per child to have their haircut  I thought that was the going rate. They get it done at the same time by different hairdressers so I tip £1 each hairdresser.
I always tip - roughly 10%.
I think that having done low paid jobs like waitressing I know how valuable the tips were and I would always tip.
I feel embarrased if I don't have enough cash to tip.

I really think that the people who can't afford to tip are the ones who tip, donate to charity and people who can afford it don't. Thats why I am always poor! ha ha.:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0
