There are additional problems here. You simply cannot compare the murky world of gambling where there is A LOT of fixing, inside information, money laundering, books that appear to be nothing more than a form of Ponzi schemes...

If you had done any sort of research instead of talking out of your a**e, you would realise that any fixing that goes on does not matter in the slightest as the result is irrelevant when match betting.

EDIT: Just read that you do matched betting but want the board shut down for selfish reasons.

I would be sorry to see the board go, I only started matched betting in August thanks to this site and have made just under £3000 so far

There are some complicated offers but there are lots of easy / simple offers where you can make a lot of money, I know because those are the ones which have made me £3k so far! If an offer is complicated or I don't understand it then I simply don't do it and wait for the other easier offers which pop up every weekend - Boyles Christmas Calendar or Mobile Madness being classic examples of easy to do offers which generate a nice regular profit

I have averaged around £400 a month so far and in January (one of the worst financial months of the year for most people after spending so much at Christmas) I made £600+ profit! All whilst holding down a full time job and just by spending a couple of hours a week matched betting. I can't think of any other way which is equally as simple where you can earn that kind of money on a Saturday / Sunday morning

To put it into perspective, if I got a second job where I was paid £10 an hour nett, I would have to work another 40hrs per month for £400, 60hrs for £600!!

A lot of my profits are thanks to the info on these boards and the helpful posters who share that info. The fact that the boards are on MSE means that 99.9% of the people on here know when an offer is risk free or not and most will not discuss it, take the boards elsewhere and there will be more freedom to discuss risk and proper gambling which these boards do not allow

I am not entirely sure what the solution is but I hope one is found which keeps these boards, and their helpful community, on the MSE forums
  • Yeah Goonie, BUT you might take some of that 3 grand and stick it on Red! Or risk some of that on a 770 reload! Or you might get confused and not understand your spreadsheet and blindly lay the wrong team! It's GAMBLING and the bookie always wins!

Tut tut, it can only end in tears ;)

A prime example of the type of post I was referring to. Bookmakers can and do void or withhold winnings from bets where match fixing is suspected, potentially leaving you with a very large loss.

But at least you presented your case so eloquently.

Question to all the people who want this forum closed.

Do you want the high street bookmakers to shut because the temptation to go in one when your walking past is too much?

If people cannot decide what is risk free, they should not be doing things they don't understand.

This forum had made many, many people better off financially. What percentage of people have lost money?

I do feel rather strongly on this matter, I believe the majority of people on this forum are here for the same thing - to make money risk free.

Yes a small minority are not risk free, but closing because of the minority is rather drastic action.

    Make forum categories

Beginners - Just sign up offers
Advanced - All other reloads etc etc
Not risk free - Plus ev offers (locked - only available to be seen by members)

My RISK FREE profits since June 2011.

    BOOKMAKER TOTAL + £7,807.26
    CASINO TOTAL + £2,197.72
    CASHBACK TOTAL + £242.78
    TOTAL + £10247.76
  • Surely the Las Vegas sticky thread needs to be considered for closure then? The gambling metropolis of the world is openly discussed.

I tried to ask the Bellagio for my $5 slot machine stake back (a la William Hill) after losing at Megabucks and they outright refused. The cheek.

I have mixed feelings about the future of the board.
It probably needs to be split so that the pathway for newbies is not littered with advanced offers. The more advanced offers either need to be made harder to access or we need to move to a different forum.

I see the "GIOL made me into an addict" talk and I have to say that it has exposed some addictive tendancies in me. There have been times I have gambled. I have lost a few hundred pounds (not all at once - in dribs and drabs) over the 4yrs I have been doing this. I have to be careful to control myself. But that is hundreds in a total of thousands.

And I think all this needs a certain type of individual. When I was doing the Coral 10% refund on losses offer 2yrs ago I certainly did sweat before putting on a £500 bet and a £2500 lay!! Not something you should be doing if you are prone to mistakes or lapses of concentration.
Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.

I would rather drown with you than watch the surf with someone else

Someone putting money into a savings account may withdraw the balance and then drop it down a drain. Or give the whole lot to a chugger on their way home. Should we stop suggesting people use savings accounts?
Someone buying reduced food at the end of the day in Tesco might forget to freeze it and waste their money (and food that someone else could have eaten). Should we suggest people stop buying reduced bargains?
Someone might not understand that you have to transfer an ISA balance to a new provider rather than closing the old account and opening a new one, thereby losing their tax-free interest status. Should we stop giving examples of best-buy ISA transfers?

If a "770 reload" isn't risk-free then it shouldn't be on the board. It's not gambling if there is no risk and so the bookie doesn't always win and so it won't end in tears.

Fixing tends to happen on obscure markets, which would likely get you gubbed anyway.

It is very unlikely there will be fixing involved betting on the top leagues of english football.
  • The kind of personal attacks on me and others on this thread kind of prove my point about the sort of thing that GIOL seems encourage.

For the record: I used to make money from gambling, and although it was overall profitable for me, it did become addictive and I ended up spending far too much of my life glued to the internet. It effectively prevented me from getting on with my life when I was between jobs. My own experience looking back I feel was a negative one, and I wouldn't (and don't) advise any of my friends to get into this.

I don't stand to make any money if this board is closed, however I think it is likely that some of the people who are getting very angry about the board maybe being closed may stand to lose money. People can decide for themselves who is being 'GREEDY'.

There are plenty of other places on the internet with this kind of information for those who need to search for it, I don't think it's appropriate on this site, which I continue to use for other kinds of financial advice and offers.
