PennyGrabber's Path to Pecuniary Positiveness!!

Well, when I went to pick up the children from school, my boss told me she didn't want to see me and my germs tomorrow!! So, means I have another day off. Hopefully I'll start feeling better, as the place is starting to look like a hovel.
Realised when I got home, that I took the leftovers from yesterday's dinner to work for lunch, and they're still there! Oh well, can't win them all.
Positives for today:
- nsd
- did lots of reading, which always relaxes me
- the children were really well behaved, as they knew I was poorly - they're so lovely!
- managed to take all of my tablets today, despite not being able to remember when to take para and when to take brufen! Think I'll have to make myself a chart!
- My daily allowance hit £3.50 today. It was only £3.30something when I started monitoring, and I only did the weekly shop yesterday!
- Managed to pay off a bit of my cc today. I paid for the tyres on the cc, which came to £204.22. I have a car account, which I put money into every month, so I transfered that amount into my paying bills account, then transfered £240 onto the cc, so I have basically paid off £35.78.
- used up some things from the stores today. Made Spicy pasta sauce, pasta and cheese for lunch, but did a double portion to use all the sauce, so all I have to do for lunch tom is nuke it and chuck some cheese onto it. It's really making me feel better that the stores are going down. I know that sounds a bit weird, but I really do have too much stuff here. My problem, and I only worked this out last year, is that I am really ocd in many ways. So for example, if I start a new hobby, I have to get everything for it before I start (cross stitch, scrapbooking, card making, cake decorating, tapestry, clothes making...). If I want to stock up, I do it in style (16kg of pasta, anyone?!!). Knowing this has really made a difference, because it has meant I can monitor my behaviour, and talk myself out of it accordingly. Obviously, it doesn't work all of the time, but that's ok.
Off to bed to rest up, so I have a tiny chance of feeling better tomorrow!Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100

Morning!
I'm still feeling rubbish, but have made a list of little things to do in between rests. Think that's the best way forward, otherwise I'll just spend the whole day on my backside, and achieve nothing!
Not planning on spending any money today, although I may be tempted tonight. It's the last day of my college course, and I drive past four sms on the way there and back! Don't need anything though, except possibly some more paracetomol...
Have lo pasta stuff for one meal today, and lo turkey steaks for the other, don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, prob just grill them as that's easy and quick!
BIG NEWS...
There's a space in my freezer!!! An actual space, which is almost big enough to put a 2l ice cream tub! You have no idea how excited I am about this! (And how worried I am that I won't be able to resist buying some meat to put there!)
Right, of to do some jobs...Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100

Cleggie - thanks for looking out for me, even though you should be looking after yourself!! (Make sure you eat, please!) I did rest a lot, and did about half of the things on my list. Going back tomorrow, so that's it for the resting!
Hmm, when was the last time I had space in my freezer?... ... Well, I bought it in March last year, and that was the last time it had space in it!!!!
ModestyB - thanks for the get well wishes. DS seems fine, just random red patches on his face now and then. I'm ok, voice slowly coming back, and less pain, unless I sleep with my mouth open, which I have to because of the cold!
Positives for the day:
- low spend day. Did go to three sms after college, on a ys hunt, and also needed to get more painkillers. Got two packs of para in one, and two packs of brufen in another, forgot in the third! Don't know how much I soend gc-wise yet, I'll add it up tom when I feel like it. Did get loads of ys things, though, like Jersey Royals from £1.25 down to 15p, french stick from 40p to 4p, ready made salad from £1.50 to 15p etc. No good meat reductions, which was good, as it would have tested my resolve a bit too much!
- Remembered to take all of my pills
- Read loads, and relaxed a lot
- Did a few jobs, including washing ds' football kit which he needs tomorrow! Put it out on the line just in time for it to dry today instead of having to use the tumble drier.
- OLB looking really healthy. Ch ben went in today/yest, and I should be able to save most of it, Of course, that's only because I haven't paid the hol and xmas pots!!!
- Still on a use up mission. Used up a few things through the course of today. I will get there!

Positives for the day:
- nsd completely, not just gc
- stayed at work late to talk about next year, and feeling good about it. Lots of unasked questions answered!
- The payment to the cc has come off, and is now almost under £200. Looking forward to payday (Friday), as I will put an extra £10 onto it, so it will be under £200!
- had a use up dinner, and really enjoyed my prepack salads from te$so for lunch (ys of course!). They were a mexican style salad, and really tasty.
- the house is smelling of freshly-cooked bread, thanks to my panny. Really getting my money's worth so far, as it's so much nicer than a bought loaf. AND, it means I don't go to the sop and spend £20 on a loaf of bread!
- throat and whole body feeling much better now, despite only having a couple of hours' sleep last night. (Had a nap yest pm, and so couldn't then sleep last night )
Off to make the sandwiches for tomorrow, then bed! Goodnight! Was supposed to make dinner for tom today, as we're out at the dentist, and then choir, but I'm too tired... Well, good news and bad news today...
Given that I've just had to shell out for four new tyres, I now have to have a filling! I've never had anything done to my teeth before, and I'm really scared. I opted for the white one which is £70 instead of £50, but I'm so worried about the actual procedure...
Positives for today:
- children's teeth are good, and they were well behaved
- nsd for the gc. Had take out, for £4.30
- already made the sandwiches for tomorrow, AND I remembered to make mine too!
- gave a great french lesson today - had six and seven year olds writing sentences about aliens, like 'I have three heads'! Also got my reports finished. Woop woop!
- Get to put in my supply claim tomorrow, which will be paid on 23rd July, just in time for the summer holidays! It'll be an extra almost £300, I think
Not much else to report today. Feeling a bit 'meh' today, so think I'll just head on off now.Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100

Hi PG, You said on GC you would like to try the children with chilli this summer. My DS still dislikes kidney beans so I developed a recipe with baked beans and (tinned) chick peas as a substitute. I make a regular bol with added grated carrot, chopped-small celery and a handful of red lentils and add the beans. You can omit chillis but chop small peppers so they get used to the sight of them and put a few drops of worcester and tabasco instead - a sort of gentle introduction to the hotness that you can gradually increase until they can take a chilli or several.
The other thing is my family always say it is better the second day - sort of richer and thicker and yum with potato wedges if you want to make it more child friendly. I get DS to make it with me and keep frozen onions in the freezer as he hates chopping them so having seen what is in it now he has grown to like veg-based curry to (never thought that would happen!). I think the trick is to test the texture first and then spice it gradually (I keep natural yogurt or soured cream to take the heat down a stage or two if I miscalculate or we have spice-intolerant visitors).
Obviously you can put anything in (sometimes borlotti or pinto beans from a tin if I can find them) but these might help them get a taste for it.
