Free Broadband in my area, advised by Talk Talk door to door rep.

I had a Talk Talk rep turn up at my door a couple of days ago and they are saying that I can get free Broadband in my area now. The rep then continued to say that they have improved equipment in the exchange and made it possible to get a 20Mb connection which I find extremely difficult to believe as where I live is a good couple of miles from the local exchange and it is more a rural location that I am in where the telephone cabes between the exchange and my village haven't been upgraded and are in very poor condition when I had my line at my home reinstated the BT Openreach engineer confirmed that there is no way I will get any more than 3/4Mb.
I am just a little curious as to the free broadband bit how can this be offered? is this some sort of Talk Talk only offer or is it available from other providers?

They're not from Talk Talk,they're from a marketing company (over here it's Skye Marketing) who are paid only on commision.I had them turn up at my door last week saying the same thing,my town has just gotten FTTC Fiber Broadband & TT are going around saying "You may have heard WE have been doing work in your area & can give you free fibre broadband"...Even tho it's BT Openreach that have been doing the work for themselves.
You'll probably find you're in the same position. (you're not near Newtownards in NI are you)
If you want to see what you can get,put your number in the link below;

It'll be up to 20MB. All it means is that TT are now LLU on your exchange, so they are cheaper. There is no 'free' broadband,
Check your status with an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I wouldn't choose Talk Talk even if it was free, it is Britains worst company!

Thanks everyone for the replies. The reps never identified them self as from another company even their ID had the Talk Talk logo and that, as for their offers of 20Mb connection at no time did they state it was upto that (even though I knew that this would have been the case) I pointed out to the rep that there was no way on earth 20Mb could be achieved they continued to spout their rubbish and even tried to guarantee what they were saying.
Cepheus I fully agree with you they are just totally useless. I had the misfortune of ending up with them after they took over one of my old providers I soon abandoned them for Sky.0 -
Same problem here, Pipex part of Talk Talk took over my telephone company.0

DO CHECK your exchange status as above.
Last summer "TalkTalk" (or more correctly their marketeer representatives) had a big recruitment push on this basis- BUT MANY OF THE AREAS THAT THEY WERE VISITING HAD NOT BEEN UPGRADED AT ALL!!!!:eek:0 -

The only upgrade my exchange has had is going to LLU. There are no plans to make it fibre optic or anything else yet as for any of this work the network needs a full upgrade as well. In my village alone the network is nearly at capacity for the equipment, Openreach are never away from the area fixing faults, also everyone is suffering poor call quality due to the cables ect.
I just find it funny that TT or their partners go around making claims that are totally crazy for the areas they are working in.0 -
They visited my area last month promising 20MB. However as my exchange only has 900 users on it then NO company is going to touch it for LLUThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

....because there are still a lot of people around who are naive about broadband,don't use sites like Samknows to check their exchange, but are desperate to save money.......once they have signed up for a TalkTalk package they find out the truth....and are tied in to an 18 month contract!:eek:0 -
And because the freelance reps don't know and don't care-all they are interested in is their commission.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
