I've done this too when buying a stereo, salesman started to tell me about all the things which could go wrong, so I pretended to be worried and said I may be better off going to a local specialist shop who would sell a quality product.:rotfl:heretolearn wrote: »As soon as they start on me I just say 'oh you are so sure I need the warranty - that must mean this is a particularly unreliable brand? If so, thanks for the warning, I won't buy this after all' which makes them shut up.0 -
Its main reason I wont use Comet plus there lack of CS. Last time I went in to get something I too got the crap about warranties. No fan of Currys but at least last time I went in in Jan I didnt get same treatment, I was asked but refused to have it. I tend to buy mostly online now when I can to avoid direct contact with staff, not only are good usually cheaper but not all, I dont get the hard sell. Electrical stores are having a hard time these days and whilst I dont wish people to loose there jobs they arent helping themselves0

Last time we were in Comet, the salesperson asked if I wanted a warranty and I said something along the lines of "It's covered by the sale of goods act for the first year so no thanks" and that was the end of the matter. They must be getting wise to MSE-savvy customers buying white goods.:)
Sadly got nowhere with the haggle as it was on sale anyway:(

What an awful thing to happen to a poor couple. My parents are in their seventies and I would have hit the roof if I had discovered it had happened to them, and would have reported it to trading standards. I think the salesman saw two elderly people and decided to take advantage. Shame on you Comet! :mad:0
