I work in sales so I know what the pressure is like, but you have to know when to accept that a customer is simply not interested and move on.
I picked up a laptop recently was given the spiel on the extended warranty and the anti virus. What should have been a 5 minute pick up and pay turned into a 30 minute lecture on the benefits of a paid anti virus and an extended warranty.
youre too nice, i would have cut them dead after 20 secs0 -
i purchased a Dyson from them years ago and took out extra insurance and it went wrong so we took it back and they said 'no can do! you bought it, you sort it!' that was about 10 or more years ago and also the last time I ever walked in CometIf You See Someone Without A Smile......Give Them One Of Yours0

As soon as they start on me I just say 'oh you are so sure I need the warranty - that must mean this is a particularly unreliable brand? If so, thanks for the warning, I won't buy this after all' which makes them shut up.
I've also overheard a customer say 'if you say the word warranty one more time I'm walking out of here and buying it somewhere else' and that also worked.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

The salesman then said "on your head be it" and proceeded to tell them that the dual motor on the appliance meant they are prone to breaking down and they could well be landed with a bill for hundreds of pounds. At that point they took the cover. .
At this point I would have walked away saying "if you think the product is that bad then I don't want to buy it!"Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorn is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that she is pink; we logically know that she is invisible because we can't see her."0 -
I would't have been in Comet in the first place to hear the exchange.0

Got to admit the local comet have never tried the hard sell on me, just bought a w.machine, asked once then gave up. Maybe they had reached their targets.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Ironically I was returning an item my OH had bought from there which did not work properly!!0 -
"do yourself a favour & don't bother with the sales spiel, i've worked in retail long enough to know that your extended warranty is !!!!!!!! and barely worth the paper it's written on, purely sold in order to increase profit margins." Works most of the time & when it doesn't work, i ask to speak to a manager & tell him to grab a dictionary & read the definition of "no" to the salesperson then promptly walk out.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

The whole of Comet service is going so I cannot understand why extended warranties are being sold as there will be no Comet/OnCall engineers to fix products.0
