I'm a closet Rover fan, had the sd1 and the 827, natural progression suggests I'll probably have one of those one day.

    Nice.
Have to say - although never owned one - I'm a bit of a closet 75 fan.

I'm a sucker for that retro vibe it has, and I'm immune to Jag doing a similar thing with the S-Type (and to a lesser degree, the X-Type), for some reason, I just think Rover pulled that off better with the 75.

Bit allergic to K series engines, though - Mrs Wongsky had a 400 in the late 90s, and yes - you can guess it, the head-gasket went - so the 1.8s and 1.8Ts wouldn't be for me.

IMO the only 75 to have would be a diesel. The 1.8s as you say will suffer head gasket failure and the KV6s have a ludicrously complicated cambelt which costs about a million pounds to replace.

Not a proper Rover V8, it has the Ford 4.6 engine found in American Police cars!

If you can get over that omnomnom!
  • Thats a years MOT on it, £310 all told.

More than originally predicted, they also advised that I should possibly be planning for another car this time next year.
  • I've retired my ShitOldJapCar for the meantime - was starting to cost too much to keep it legal. I'll work on it in the next couple of years and when it's 30 years old put it back on the road as a 'Classic' and get free road tax, dirt cheap insurance, etc.
In the meantime I've put one of my GS850 Suzukis back into action, and working on the other one starts soon. Great having two the same - easy swapping of bits and boxes of spares.
They're also cheaper to run - not by a huge amount, but seems like that every week when I'm not having to save much for tax and insurance compared to the car. (the car tax here is crippling).
So, I suppose I can still contribute, either updating my SOJC status or rambling on about the SOBs.

Just got into old Suzuki's, I've a 1981 gsx750 thats technically on the road but just never used right now.

Bit cold of a morning lol.

Well my Rover is still running brilliantly, MOT is not due till Feb so a few more weeks until judgement day. I have had to spend out on it recently though, £14 for a pair of wiper blades, the sleepless nights.......

    Oh! Have the rules changed?

Don't suppose you've got a picture of the wiring to the coils? I can't get my 1985 850G going because I removed the coils and can't work out how to reconnect them back up. I was too thick to make a note when I disconnected them.
